##ICON_NAME## The blacksn0w unlock has been released. blacksn0w is an unlock for the iPhone 3G and 3GS. It is available for both Windows and Mac. You can download blackra1n (which includes the blacksn0w unlock) at blackra1n.com or, you can add the blackra1n source in Cydia and get it via Cydia. The source url is http://blackra1n.com/.

“blacksn0w is the unlock for the latest 05.11.07 baseband, and will also enable official tethering. blackra1n, a jailbreak for 3.1.2, has been updated to RC3, with hacktivation support, 15 second speed improvement, Tiger+PPC support, and installation of the latest blackra1n.app.”

Tweet:
GeoHot – “to let everyone know, it is safe to restore to stock 3.1.2 using itunes, baseband update and all…thats the point of #blacksn0w”

If you are a loyal blackra1n user who kept the blackra1n.app on your iPhone, run it. You will see Icy replaced by an option “ra1n”. Install this to upgrade your app. After upgrading, run blackra1n.app again. You will see “sn0w”. Install this, and enjoy your unlocked iPhone.

If you are new to the scene, just looking for an unlock, finally ready to upgrade to 3.1.2 and the accompanying baseband, willing to restore for the latest and greatest, or stuck on the “Connect to iTunes” screen, you are in luck. Jailbreaking and unlocking have never been easier. Go to blackra1n.com, click on the logo corresponding to your operating system, run the app, and click “make it ra1n”. When your phone reboots, you’ll see blackra1n.app. Run this, install blacksn0w, and enjoy your unlocked iPhone.

The unlock doesn’t work for me. i took it from Cydia this time, and though I don’t get a SIM card error message, what I get is the name of my carrier in the upper left, regardless of what SIM card is in there, and no service.

You might want to try turning 3G off… I unlocked my iPhone 3G and used a SIM that didn’t have a 3G connection and it appeared as “No Service”. Just try turning 3G off.

Turn 3G off and then what? Leave it off? What’s the point?

    Bonedpoop69 on November 5th, 2009 10:41 am:

Ya, just restore using itunes. Then have blackrain do the rest.

    Excuse me…

Does this mean that iPod Touch 3rd Gen owners with 3.1.2 update, can now jailbreak without losing the jailbreak on Reboot/Turn On of our players?!!

Can someone confirm this please, its quite important :)

  8. dissin on November 5th, 2009 5:44 am:

the jailbreak and unock worked perfectly.
just had to reboot after the unlock and then new sim/telco card worked!
originally locked to vodafone, and then recognised optus ;-)

    3g, 3.1.2

    Okay…

This RC3 version DOES NOT untether or unlock the iPod Touch 3rd Gens!! (RC1 works on my iPod Touch 2nd Gen, which I also own!)

My Touch already had 3.1.2 firmware on it, so I opened “Blackra1n” on my desktop, ran it “rained”, immediately installed Cydia-Rock and Blackra1n icons on Touch…it loaded everything perfectly, like my 2nd Gen, then I REBOOTED…and it WIPED OUT my iPod and I spent the next 30minutes re-installing original firmware!!

So…GeoHot has still not found an “unlock/untether” cure for us 3rd Gen owners in this lastest release!
