O2Starting today, UK cellular service provider, O2, announced they will allow iPhone owners to unlock their iPhones for free. You will need to continue paying your bill through your current contract. This allows you to travel through Europe or other countries and swap out the SIM card to save on roaming fees. Firstly, complete the unlocking form – it will take up to 14 days for the iPhone to be unlocked and we’ll text you to confirm the unlock request. Then place a non-O2 sim into the iPhone and connect to iTunes via a USB cable. iTunes will confirm that the iPhone has been successfully unlocked.

Ok that’s cool but would love to know what if you are running a jailbroken phone with ultrasn0w and would prefer do the official O2 unlock. Any advice?

    Fill out the form maybe?

    Bryan on November 11th, 2009 2:14 pm:

I meant how their unlock will affect jailbreak and ultrasnow iPhone. Will we have to uninstall ultrasNow before or restore to non jailbroken phone first, unlock and then rejailreak?

This is a reply that i had from o2, on the unlock issue, i am on pay as you go and looks like i will have to wait another 7 months to unlock officially, due to buying the 3GS 5 months ago, but it’s not a big problem, as it is jailbroken and unlocked ( unofficially )– hope this helps—

    Good evening Robert

Thanks for emailing us about unlocking your iPhone.

Robert, if you want to use a SIM card from another network in one of your iPhones, you need an ‘unlatching’ code, which costs £15.

We can only give you the code if you’ve been on our network for at least a year. That’s because we covered part of the price of your phone when you bought it, to make it cheaper for you. The £15 will be taken from your calltime credit.

If you’d like to get your unlatching code, please email me back with the following information:

    - your mobile number
    - your address (including full postcode)
    - another contact number
    - your phone’s make and model
    - your IMEI (international mobile equipment identity) code, which is unique to your phone. To get this, call *#06#.

You can also complete the unlocking form on http://www.o2.co.uk/unlockmyiphone to get your unlocking code. Please remember that it takes up to 14 days for the iPhone to be unlocked.

I hope you’ll find this information useful and I look forward for your reply.

Thanks once again for emailing us and have a pleasant evening.

If you need further information about this matter, please reply to this email and I’ll be happy to help you. For further details about O2, please visit our online Help Centre at:
