Protect Your iPhone (and iPod touch) While Cooking

I use my iPhone quite often while cooking and more than once I have looked down to see my delightful iPhone covered in flour or streaked with egg (I know… tragic!).
This past week-end Doug and I hosted a tech party. Yep, you read that right, a tech party. You know, the kind where there is an Xbox in one corner (projected on the wall) a Wii in another corner (also projected on the wall), a 24″ iMac running games, a few random laptops laying around and of course lots of food.
Halfway through making my third dessert for the tech party, Doug comes into the kitchen and informs me that he has the sweetest thing to show me. Lets set the scene. I am on my second day of cooking and half way through my third dessert… I’m covered in flour, pudding mix, chocolate cake and crumbles of Heath bar so for some reason stopping right then didn’t seem extrememly appealing to me but, he insisted. (I was convinced I was going to be informed of some new Twitter phenomenon.) He grabs my iPhone (which was displaying the recipe for what I was currently making), wipes it off and puts it in a plastic baggie.
Apparently, a plastic baggie is the iPhone’s best friend while in the kitchen!
You can put your iPhone (or iPod touch) into a plastic baggie (you know, like the Ziplock kind) and still use the touch screen. This works perfectly for cooking. It allows you the ability to use your iPhone yet protects it from those inevitable spills! When you are done, you can take your iPhone out and it is perfectly clean.
Personally, I’m not sure I will do this every time I take my iPhone into the kitchen with me but, for those cooking marathons, it’s a total must!!

Ziplocs are also useful to use your iPhone while in a bathtub. No spilled water would damage it or in a worst case, it won’t die if you drop it in the tub.

Zioloc makes “snack size” baggies which are a better fit for your phone. Careful,however to avoid the ones with cartoon characters-they’re printed on both sides.

Sounds like a fun party. I have put my iphone in a bag while in the desert before. The sand is very fine and it keeps it clean and away from the scratchies.

and if your going jetskiing or boating
a couple prices of styrofoam and an extra baggy around the outside will save your phones life
