SHAtter Jailbreak – Tethered or untether that is the question.

Ok ok… it seems there is quite a bit of speculation going around as to what the SHAtter jailbreak is… tethered or untethered. (For those of your who are still catching up… SHAtter is the name of the jailbreak the Chronic Dev Team is currently working on for iOS 4.1). It seems that there is a bit of confusion. Honestly, I’m not sure it really matters too much since the jailbreak isn’t even out yet but, lets try to clarify the situation anyway.

SHAtter is neither confirmed to be tethered nor untethered. According to the Chronic Dev Team’s blog (which is currently down right now due to the amount of traffic it is receiving) says this, “Anything you read saying it is one of the above in definite terms is just speculation, again, we have not given official word about the tether status or any details regarding the exploit used.”

Yesterday they also retweeded @obzilo who said, “SHAtter is not a tethered jailbreak nor it is untethered… @chronicdevteam have not yet announced anything about that. Stop speculations :)”

I’m sure they are doing their best and working hard to get a jailbreak out… we will keep you up-to-date on what happens. If I had my guess… I would think that they wouldn’t release a tethered jailbreak but, you never know!

  1. People are so impatient. If you’ve been in the JB game for a while you should know the drill by now. Stop buggin’ the devs and the team. They are doing great work. The only time you should really hit em up is if you have something to contribute the JB/hack. Let’s just chill and wait for the news/JB ok y’all. Also, have you donate to the cause lately? If not, you should. You tip your waiters don’t you? (I’m sorry if that’s a bad analogy. Just trying to get a point across)

  2. Since a 4.1 jailbreak will be coming out. Is it safe to upgrade my stock ios 4.0.2 to 4.1 and enjoy the slight improvements (proximity sensor upgrade)? I hate accidental FACETIME during phone calls!!!!

  3. Ok, so I have a question. If it is a tethered jailbreak (if) is there a way to unteather it through cydia. I am running on 4.1. If not, how can I untether my iPod? Please help.
