Weather UndergroundI’ve used this web app forever and have never written about it so I thought I’d share it with you if you haven’t heard of it. I think it’s the best weather app I’ve seen so far. I’m biased because I use Weather Underground’s full site on my computer. Weather Underground for the iPhone is easy to get to, just go to i.wund.com.

Once there you can type in a city or zip in the search box and find your city.

Once you find it, you can tap on the plus sign in Safari and add it to your home screen. I named mine Underground but weather would work well too. You could even do a few for different cities and name them the city.

The page is broken up into 4 sections: Current, Radar, Forecast & Warnings. Current shows you all kinds of info like conditions, temperature, humidity, wind, even sunrise and sunset.

My favorite is the Radar section. Most important, it allows for animation. It also has three zoom options from Local to Region. There’s even a Severe Weather Overlay.

The Forecast is a list of the next 7 days with icons describing the weather and a small text description. It usually includes sunny or cloudy, precipitation percentage, temperature, wind, and night conditions.

Finally there is a warning section for some areas. This includes tornadoes, floods, hurricanes, etc.

Overall, I think this is the best weather application and runs quick even on slow connections. Best of all, it’s free! Please share your favorite weather app or web app. I’d love to hear what everyone uses to check the weather!

Does it allow for metric measurements?

First comment, been reading since the inception ;-)

Anyhow, try The Weather Channel’s official app at:
    http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewSoftware?id=295646461&mt=8

I too used Wunderground until this came along. It includes current, hourly, 36 hour, and ten day conditions plus radar with many overlays, sever alerts and, best of all local VIDEO! For the chap asking about metric? Well, they offer vid for the UK, France, Canada, Bahamas and the Caribbean. The only requests I have at this point are moving maps and sunrise/sunset times, a prettier icon and multiple overlays ;-)
Otherwise, a fantastic FREE app worth checking out

Hey! Thanks for the comment! I like all the features of The Weather Channel’s app too, but the one thing I gotta have is looping radar. That way I can tell when and where the precipitation is. Once they get that, it may beat the Weather Underground web app. And they do need a better icon :)

I usually just use the stock weather app, but if I want a more detailed forecast I use mobil.tv4vadret.se, which has a nice iphone interface for us swedes.

This is what I’ve been using pretty much since I got the phone. The only thing I wish I could change is the icon!

weather underground…I wonder if the name that also has to do with a terrorist group was an accident

The weather underground (weather company) is based in Ann Arbor, Michigan – home to the University of Michigan. The name is a tongue-in-cheek reference to the 1960s militant radical leftist student group the Weather Underground, which also originated at the University of Michigan.
