3.0 Firmware is Jailbreakable (according to Dev Team)

Dev Team The Dev Team updated their blog recently to give us some information about unlocking and jailbreaking the 3.0 firmware. Below is what they have to say.

“With all of the great stuff lined up for us with the 3.0 OS that Apple described today, many 3G owners may find themselves with itchy update fingers. If you find yourself with access to the 3G IPSW for 3.0 via the iPhone Dev Center program, and you are using yellowsn0w, do not update or restore to that official IPSW. You will lose yellowsn0w and find yourself unable to revert the baseband to get it back.

And for those wondering, yes the 3.0 OS is jailbreakable on all devices. It’s just those using 3G yellowsn0w that have to show some restraint and wait for PwnageTool to create a custom IPSW that avoids the baseband update.”

  3. iChopPryde says:

even with all the new awesome updates in 3.0 pretty much almost eliminating all needs for jailbreaking really but I still want jailbreaking lol

  4. pHil says:

quite simply, if it isn’t jailbreakable then I won’t be upgrading to Version 3.

It may have many great features, but no jailbreak means no Qik, Teathering or CyCorder then I doubt I’ll bother

  5. zeb says:

After upgrading to 3.0 I was unable to activate my 3G since I wasnt a dev. I restored it to 2,2,1 and everything is fine now. It doesnt brick any phone, unless you need it yellowsn0wed. http://img214.imageshack.us/img214/9162/002y.png

I’m confused, firmware 3.0 beta 2 only works for those who are in the Iphone dev center program, which costs $99? and if I download the 3.0 ipsw I can’t connect with itunes?

    Have I got that right?

  14. Nate says:

I am running the 3.0 BETA 2 on my 2g iPhone on T-Mobiles service without any issues. Seems to run nicely.

  15. JayC says:

I personally have given this some thought and I think that the Dev Team shouldn’t give out so many updates on the jailbraking of 3.0 and beyond. I think that Apple wants the Dev Team to see how quickly they can get it done so they can make all the changes necessary right before the actual release date. I don’t think that this current beta version will be the same on release….Dev Team be warned…

I usually wait to the official releases anyway…Keep up the GREAT work Dev Team!!!

  16. Randy says:

RIGHT NOW I’M RUNING 2.2 SOFTWARE AND I WANT TO UPGRADE TO 3.0 BETA, BUT I DON’T KNOW IF I GOING TO KEEP THE YELLOWSNOW CUZ I’M USING T-MOBILE. ANY HELP PLEASE HOW TO DO IT.

  17. Randy says:

    any HELP Please.

  18. Jon says:

I have the GM version of the 3.0 installed and everything is working just fine, one question, is there a way to go back to 2.2.1? Im alittle worried about not being able to update or jb when the 14th release?

  19. Vell says:

what if I have a phone with the baseband at 02.30.03 then what? Will DEV have a unlock for this?

  20. Shoeshine says:

I have a iphone 3g with the 2.2.1 firmware. Locked out of using me t-mobile sim. Sold my 2g for the 3g. Got frustrated and tried everything. Ended up using the ziphone downgrade thingy to try and downgrade the phone. It froze and I had to restore the phone with itunes. After doing this the phone just worked. Really weird. Lost all my pictures but I had the important ones backed up. Looking in the about menu looks like everything is still the same. Same baseband and all. Only thing is, the phone says no service sometimes at random times. Not really recomending any one try it, just sharing my desperate adventures.

  21. Ben says:

The new features in 3.0 are nice but do not compare to what you can do with a jailbroken iPod touch wich is what I have.

  22. Ben says:

Let me change that. What I had untell I updated to 3.0 firmware. Hope they put the jailbreak out soon.
