QuickTip – Hard Restarting your iPhone or iPod Touch

AiS It has been a while since I have wrote a new QuickTip so, I thought I better get back to it!

QuickTip – Have you ever opened an application or been using an application only to have it completely lockup? In these instances, you can do a hard restart of your iPhone or iPod Touch. To do so, just hold the lock button (that is the button at the top of your device) and the home button at the same time until you see the Apple logo on a black background (you usually have to hold the buttons for around 10 seconds before this happens). You can then release the buttons and your iPhone/iPod Touch will restart.

I’ve had to do this once in a while….very useful….but learned this from jailbreaking days…
    :)

    Thanks for the tip

Well from what I know that method will make your whole device restart, which is a little bit time consuming.

If the application that you are working on freezes and you want to terminate just that application without having to restart your device, then keep the “home” button pressed for about 10-15 seonds. When you release the botton the app will shut down.

It’s the equivalent of “force quit” or “end task”

Yep that works too unless you are really locked up…which happens to me a lot because I test a lot of apps…then the only thing that works is this hard restart!

Very handy tip. Another way is to just hold down the home button for around 10 seconds (I think) and that will sometimes quit locked up app.

my old ipod’s lock button was broken.

so all my ipod did was restart, and restart, and restart……

    ……. and restart.

Yep like @Stevey101 said the holding the home button works also. I always try that first.

When TTR 2 froze when I tried to play a song on extreme I tried holding the home button, nothing. Tried holding both buttons and it restarted but thats all it kept doing. Ended up restoring, so now I don’t play songs over medium incase this happens. :D
