Pandora updated their iPhone app to finally support running in the background. It’s using Apple’s new APIs to keep the audio streaming in the background but close down the rest of the app to save battery life. It worked well on my iPhone 3GS and the new iPod controls in the dock now support Pandora when it’s open.
Backgrounding this app only works on iOS 4 which means it doesn’t background on the iPad. Below is what it looks like.
What’s New
– Backgrounding: Pandora keeps playing after you press press the home button. You can go surf the web or use Facebook and the music won’t stop. (Available only on multitasking capable devices with iOS 4.)
– Other bug fixes and minor enhancements
another update was just releases btw… 3.1.1
It backgrounds nicely on my iPhone 3GS 3.1.3 with Backgrounder set to Native.
It feels so… liberating.
Does it work with ipod controls with this method like it does with ios4? Im using music controls at the moment to achieve this but will uninstall it if its not needed. Thank u in advance
Unfortunately, iPod controls don’t work with it. But if you don’t mind an extra tap or two, you can pull it up a la ProSwitcher at any time.
A new version of Slacker was released lssat night, touts background also.
