Lexic – Sweet Word Game

Available In: App Store       Price: $3.99

Lexic Lexic is a pretty sweet word game. I don’t know if word games are your thing or not but, I love them and this one is definitely among the best! The object of the game is to find as many words as possible among the letters on the screen but, depending on your game mode, the letters disappear as you use them and new ones fall into their place (it’s like a cross between Bejeweled and Boggle!).

Lexic is actually like having three games in one! Once installed, you are able to choose between three different game modes; Cascade (Classic), Blackout and Stasis. In Cascade, as you create words, the letters you use disappear and new letters fall into their place. This makes things interesting because you are not only trying to beat the clock but, you are trying to use strategy to create new words. In Blackout, as you use the letters they disappear however, more letters do not fall into their place…they just disappear! So, though this game is not timed, you have to use a ton of strategy to create the most words as possible even as the letter disappear. When you are finished with this game, just tap the Done button at the top of the screen. In Stasis, as you create words, no letters disappear and no letters drop in…you just create as many words as possible with the letters provided. This game is timed so, you have to create as many words as you can and do it as quickly as possible!

In all three games, you create words by dragging your finger from letter to letter. As you do, the letters will be “highlighted.” If you create a word, the number of points you received for that word will fade off the play screen. If you have an orange letter on the play screen, any time you use it, you receive extra points. Your score and remaining time are located at the top of the play screen. You can pause the game at any time using the pause icon at the top of the screen as well. Once you finish a game, you are able to enter your name and submit your score to a high score list (both local and global). You can view a list of all the words you created during a game by tapping the “W” icon at the bottom of the main menu page after your game is finished.

The Settings it where things get really fun! In the Settings, you have quit a few options; you are able to choose between the three game modes, you can set the time limit (1 min, 2 mins, 3 mins, 5 mins or Practice), you can choose between quit a few title set themes (which is cool), you can choose between frame themes, you can choose a word list (TWL or SOWPODS), you can turn the sound on/off, you can view the achievement you have unlocked, you can view your high scores (Cascade, Blackout, Stasis and Longest Words…which is interesting!), you can view the global high scores (Cascade, Blackout and Stasis), you can view instructions on how to play the game and you can check out their website.

A few things that I really like about this application is that it saves your game no matter what happens…you get a call, a text message, you hit the Home Button…etc. The Global High Scores are viewable directly in the application (you are not taken to a Safari browser) which I love! I also love that you can unlock achievements which then unlock more options in the Settings (check out the Achievements option in the Settings for info about this)…I think it gives the game a extra dimension. I like that you can customize the game and that you can choose between three game modes. The graphics are very nice, the interface is easy to use and the touch sensitivity and accuracy are pretty much perfect. I honestly cannot think of one thing that I would like to see in this app that it doesn’t already have. This is most definitely an application I will continue to go back to time and time again!

And, if the game itself weren’t cool enough, below are two promo codes for the first two people to use them!! Good luck! You will really enjoy this game! Remember to let us know in the comments if you use the codes so that everyone knows they have been taken.
