Whirlwind The update to version 1.1.0 of Whirlwind21 makes a few changes to the application. The first change you will notice is a new icon. There are no changes to the app looks or plays however, there is a new Help button. In the upper right corner of the app, the About option has been replaced with a Help option. In the Help option, you will get basic info on how to play the game, scoring rules and copyright info about the app. The Scoring Rules are nice because there were a few that I didn’t know about…like the 5 Card Charlie. A simple update but, a fun game! Continue reading »

Cannon ChallengeBranded by the Discovery Channel, this game is simple but fun. The first, and hardest part, is getting the game to run. I had to uninstall and reinstall the first time I got it and now sometimes I have to restart my iPhone before it will run. It helps to know that I am still on iPhone firmware 2.0 and not 2.0.1 which is less buggy. Reading comments in the App Store it seems many others are having problems also.

Once you get the game to run it’s worth it for free. Using controls for both Altitude and Velocity you control your tank to destroy the enemy. This game is pretty easy because the enemy doesn’t fire back. Unlike other tank games, you don’t move your tank around. The game has nice sound effects and graphics but needs more difficulty added and maybe a two player mode over the network :) Here’s a video review: Continue reading »

doomI thought I would post some screenshots of the progress of Doom over time. It seems it won’t be in the App Store via this developer but will run on 2.0. Besides Wolfenstein 3D, Doom was one of the first games I played on a PC (minus all the GWBASIC games). Now these screenshots come from the work that Steven, developer of Speed, MobileNuker and current developer of Lights Off, and not that of John Carmack and Todd Hollenshead of ID Software who are the original developers of the game, although they would like to get both Doom and Wolfenstein 3D onto the iPhone. They’ve even been heard to be looking for an App Store publisher to work with to get the game out there. Hmm, maybe Steve better give them a call! One way or the other, it is on it’s way! Here’s the screenshots: Continue reading »

When the app opens, you will get the main play screen. At the top of the screen you have the options; New Game and About. New Game will start and new game and About will give your a little info about the game and your High Score. At the bottom of the play screen you can see your current score and how many cards are left before a reshuffle.

To begin playing just tap on the column you would like the card to be added to. It will then move the card and display the next card. Remember Continue reading »

Lights OffToday a reader sent the following email:

Do you guys know anything on the status of the Lights Off game? The website for it has been down for sometime and I have not heard much about it since its release. I was just wondering if you had any information on this app coming to the AppStore or being updated for 2.0 jailbreak. The reason I ask is because I would like to have that app on my 2.0 touch. Thanks for your time. - Dewey

Dewey, thanks for the email! Here’s what I found. Over on MacRumors’s Forums there’s a post from Steve (the developer, not Steve Jobs) dated July 23rd that gives us lots of info! Yay! Here it is: Continue reading »

NeverputtME NeverputtME is a game that has been out for a little while now via Installer…for firmware 1.1.4 and below. It is a putting game, created by Lazrhog, that is based on the Neverball engine. I actually tested this game when it first came out however, like Neverball, it is impossible to get screenshots of the application. Well, we finally got some screenshots! So, time for a review! When you open NeverputtME, you will get the info screen where you will get a little bit of information about the app. To get to the Main Menu of the app, select the Play option in the upper left corner.

You will then be brought to the main menu which has two options; Play and Help. Help will give you hints on how to play the game. If you select Play you are able to choose a course. As you drag your finger across the course options Continue reading »

Neverball The update to version 1.4.1 of Neverball change the name of the application to NeverballME. BigBoss also mentioned that, “The main changes here are to update the data files used to allow for NeverPutt.” It does feel like the app plays a little smoother as well. You can get NeverballME though the BigBoss source.

BreakClassic is similar to breakout with a few cool features. When you open the application, you will get a splash screen with the option New Game. When you select New Game, you will then be brought to the play screen. At the top of the screen is your Current Score, HiScore and the Level you are on. At the bottom of the screen is the number of balls you have left. The object of the game is to break all the block by hitting them with the ball. To begin, touch the paddle. The second level is where thing start to get a little more fun. The blocks are colored and there are stars inside some of the block. If you hit a block that has a star, the star will drop as well. You get extra points if you are able to catch the start on your paddle. Another cool feature is that the ball and the smoke following the ball change color based on the last block it hit. As the levels go on you will get Continue reading »

PegJump is a very simple yet highly addicting game (that I can’t beat!!!). When you open the application, you will get an intro screen with instructions on how to use the app. To get into the game select Close in the upper left corner. You will then get a pop-up saying that you will need to select the peg that you want to start empty. Now, you will be brought to the game board.

The object of the game is to have no pegs left on the board. The first thing you will need to do is select the peg that you would like removed from the board…it can be any peg. Now, you can jump pegs to remove them. When you select a peg Continue reading »

I love this game! It takes me back to the day…you know when you used to make a million dots on a piece of paper! When you open the app, it will bring you directly to the main play screen. On the main play screen, you will notice the title of the two players at the bottom of the screen and an “i” icon. If you select the information icon you will get the option to change the title of the players, start a new game and learn more about the application. To get back to the main menu, select Done in the upper right corner.

Now, you are ready to play. The object of the game is to Continue reading »

quake4iphoneWell, for all of you who think Cydia doesn’t have anything worth jailbreaking for, now there is. Quake has been ported to the iPhone and works on firmware 2.0. This game is very playable but only comes with the shareware Quake files so some of the levels are locked. The sound works great and I didn’t have any lag. Here are some screenshots. We’ll get a video review out as soon as we can. Continue reading »

Aurora Feint has been update to version 1.0.0.1 and is back in the App Store. The update adds some new features and fixes quite a few bugs including the ones dealing with security issues. Below is a list of Security updates.

Privacy and Security Updates:
    • Visible notification BEFORE participating in the opt-in community feature.
    • All network communication is now securely encrypted using https
    • No data from your contact list is saved on your phone’s hard drive

Overall, it seems like the security issues have been resolved. I personally like this game and will continue to play it. Let us know in the comments what you think. You can also check out Aurora Feint’s forum for more info about the game. Also, for those of you who are not familiar with Aurora Feint, below is a demo video. It does not have any audio but you will at least get a feel for the game.

If you had a jailbroke iPhone, this application will feel very familiar. It is basically the Installer version of the application ported to 2.0 and added to the App Store. The Lite Edition of Labyrinth gives you ten levels to play (which is basically enough to get you totally addicted…forcing you to upgrade to the full version :) ). The full version of the application is $6.99. When you open Labyrinth, you will get the main screen with three options on the lower menu bar; Play, Settings and Credits. In the Settings option you have the ability to turn on/off the Game time limit and the ability to Calibrate your iPhone. To get back to the main menu, select Back in the lower left corner.

To start the application, select Play on the lower menu bar. Here you will see that only one level pack is available with the Lite Version of the application. When you select the Level Pack, it will bring you directly into the first level of the game. The object of the game is to get the silver ball to the checkered ball without falling in the holes by tilting your iPhone. When you are in the game, Continue reading »
