Geekbench 3 – iPhone Benchmark Utility

Many iOS developers lower their prices for Black Friday and some even lower them to FREE! Geekbench 3 is one worth checking out (usually $0.99). If you’re into stats and details, this app is full of it. Recently adding an iPhone 6S to our family, seeing how much faster it is than an iPhone 6 Plus. It shows a lot of stats, many I don’t really know much about what they mean. It was pretty nice to see the bump up in memory for the 6S and double the power. You can also do stats on your battery and connect it to dropbox for saving stats. Here’s a quick video showing what it looks like along with some screenshots. [Read more…]

Opera Mini For iPad

Opera has released a version of it’s alternate web browser for the iPad. It was originally a big drama to get another browser on Apple’s iOS next to Safari but Apple eventually allowed it. Opera has been available on the iPhone for a while but now works on the iPad too. The app is pretty good over all and has some great features. Opera loads webpages on their servers and then compresses the data to load faster on your device. It’s great when you have a slow connection or you want to save bandwidth on your iPhone or iPad data plan. It also has a password storing system and multiple tab support. [Read more…]

PBS released their new iPad app allowing you to watch many of their programing right on the iPad. I tested it out last night and got distracted watching an episode on the wildlife of Cuba. According to their App Store description at the time of writing this article, they upgraded server capacity just a day after releasing the app. If you installed this app the day it was released and were having troubles, give it another try. Apple Now Allowing In-App Purchase in Free App Store Applications

##ICON_NAME## Apple has announced to developers that they are changing the in-app purchase feature of App Store applications. In the past, only paid applications could use the in-app purchase feature however, Apple is now allowing the feature to be implemented into free apps as well as paid apps.

I’m not sure what I think about this yet but, I do think it could help clean up the App Store a bit. Instead of developers creating a free lite version of their app, they could just make the application free with an in-app purchase to buy the full game thus eliminating the need for free lite versions of applications.

Below is Apple’s memo. [Read more…]
