Lexic 2.0 – New Game Option: Quest

Available In: App Store       Price: $1.99

##ICON_NAME## Today, Lexic has been update to version 2.0. I very rarely write about App Store app updates but, this is absolutely my favorite word game. The update adds a new game option called Quest.

Quest adds a whole new dimension to the game. The object of Quest is still to earn as many points as possible but, in order to advance to the next level, you have to collect the specified amount of Gold letters (by using them in a word). That sounds easy enough however, you have to collect them while navigating through Bomb, Lock, Virus and Letter Switching titles. [Read more…]

WordWeaver – Word Game with a Twist

Available In: App Store       Price: $1.99

WordWeaver WordWeaver is a word game with a twist. Like most boggle style word games, the object of WordWeaver is to create words from the letters provided, however WordWeaver adds an extra element with “a woven lattice board” that allows you to change specific letters. Another unique element is that each letter is given a point value (think Scrabble) which allows you to strategically create words worth more points. You are also able to unlock achievements, collect gems and coins, and deliberately use (or avoid) special tiles. [Read more…]

BoggWords – Word Game

Available In: App Store       Price: $0.99

BoggWords When I came across this game in our email, it totally sent me to back in the day when my sister and I would play Bloggle (ok, it was mostly just me… she would usually get mad a quit!). I remember spending many a day shaking up the letters, setting the timer and going to work find words. BoggWords is a word game along the same lines as Boggle.

The thing that sets this game apart from other “Boggle” type games are the Objectives. Throughout the games, you are able to complete objectives. Each time you complete an object, it is marked off the list of possible objectives and brings you one step closer to unlocking games. [Read more…]

Word Tower – Think Tetris with Letters

Available In: App Store       Price: $0.99

Word Tower Word Tower is like playing Tetris with letters. I love the developer’s description of the app – “What do you get when you mix up Scrabble, Boggle and Tetris and add the flipping, shaking and sliding that only the iPhone/iTouch can do? WORD TOWER!”

That is exactly what it is…you have to created words from the letters. You create words by dragging your finger over the letters that form a word. If you create a word, the letters will disappear however, you have to do it quickly because more letters are falling. The cool part is that you can “grab” the letters and move them around as they are falling so that you can strategically create more words.

As you move through the levels, new blocks are introduced. Some of the blocks give you additional points when used, some have to be used a certain number of times before they disappear…etc. The one that gets me is the snowflake. When a snowflake drops you have to shake your device, before it touches another letter, which then changes all your letters. So here you are building a strategy and along comes a snowflake and messes it all up!

Lexic – Sweet Word Game

Available In: App Store       Price: $3.99

Lexic Lexic is a pretty sweet word game. I don’t know if word games are your thing or not but, I love them and this one is definitely among the best! The object of the game is to find as many words as possible among the letters on the screen but, depending on your game mode, the letters disappear as you use them and new ones fall into their place (it’s like a cross between Bejeweled and Boggle!). Seek ‘n Spell – A Real-Time GPS-Based Word Building Competition

Available In: App Store       Price: Coming Soon

##ICON_NAME## Ok, I was going to wait to tell you guys about this app once I had a copy of it but, I find it very intriguing so I thought I would pass it along now! Seek ‘n Spell is a, “a real-time GPS-based word building competition.” Honestly, I have not seen an application quite like this one. The object of the game is to create words by collecting letters. The catch is the letters are located outdoors. You collect letters by finding the letters based on GPS location. Your iPhone’s screen displays where each letter is located and then you must run (or walk) to that location in order to obtain the letter. You want to collect letters that will create the longest word…think real life Scrabble. To get a true feel of the application you will want to check out the demo video below.

Seek ‘n Spell has been submitted to the App Store but is still waiting approval so, keep your eye out for it. For more info check out their website. Overall, this seems like a super fun game to play…especially with the weather getting warmer. [Read more…]

MadLibs – Complete Mad Libs on your iPhone or iPod Touch

Available In: Cydia       Price: Free

MadLibsMadLibs is an application that is exactly that…Mad Libs on your iPhone and/or iPod Touch. The object of the application is to fill out a “list of words to substitute for blanks in a story; these word substitutions have a humorous effect when the resulting story is then read aloud.” I have actually had this application on my iPhone since it’s first released however, the first release had a poor interface and was buggy so, I did not write a review of it. Well, the app was recently updated and is working much better.

When you open the application, you will get the main screen where you have a few options; View Completed MadLibs, Submit New MadLibs, Download New MadLibs, Select MadLibs to Play and Play Random MadLibs. The View Completed MadLibs will display a list of the Mad Libs that you have finished including the title of the Mad Lib and the date and time it was completed. You can then select one to view it. The Submit New MadLib option allows you to submit your own Mad Lib from within the application. The Download New MadLibs is how you get more Mad Libs…when selected, you are given the option to see if there are any updated Mad Libs that can be downloaded and added to the app. Select MadLibs to Play is where you can select from the list of available Mad Libs or you can choose to have the app select a random Mad Lib for you to complete. WordClock 0.1b

WordClock WordClock is an application that displays the date and time in word format. When you open the application, you will see that it lists Sunday-Saturday, the first through the thirty-first, one through fifty-nine, am, pm, zero through fifty-two…in words. It will have the today’s date in read…ex; Sunday, the fifteenth of June. It will then have the exact time in red as well…ex; five thirty-six pm and twenty-three. It will change the seconds in real time. You can tap the screen to get into the Settings menu. From here you can change the Background, Foreground and Highlight color. The only issue with this is that you cannot see the color you are changing it to. It would be easier if there was a slider bar the displayed how you were affecting the color when you changed the Red, Green and Blue. The only other issue I have with this application is [Read more…]
