TomTom Car Kit Finally Available – Sort Of
Ok, we have been doing this TomTom Car Kit thing for almost two months now, but it seems that they might finally be getting down to business… sort of. The TomTom Car Kit is now displayed on both the Apple Store and TomTom’s website however, there are a few catches.
First, the price now seems to be $119.95 instead of the announced price of $99.99. Second, the Apple Store says that the product is, “Currently Unavailable” and TomTom’s website says that it is, “Currently not available through TomTom.com.” So, although it seems to be “ready”, they obviously are not shipping yet.
Basically, they have already delayed the Kit once so instead of delaying it again (missing their October deadline) and looking really bad, they have put the item up so it looks available when really… it’s not.

New 3GS Models Come With New Bootrom, Blocks Jailbreak

Filed under Apple, iPhone 3GS, jailbreak
According to info from some Dev Team members, new iPhone 3GS models are coming with an updated bootrom version 359.3.2. The current exploit, 24kpwn, is not working on iPhone 3GS models with this bootrom. We’ll know more and more as people buy iPhones but beware if you are buying a new one. Although there is no working jailbreak for this bootrom, hackers have always made it past any roadblocks from Apple and will likely make it past this one eventually. Here are a few quotes from the Dev Team on Twitter:

Robotvision is an augmented reality application. A quick wiki definition of Augmented Reality – “a term for a live direct or indirect view of a physical real-world environment whose elements are merged with-, or augmented by virtual computer-generated imagery – creating a mixed reality”
I got an email about this application and was instantly intrigued. I think these type of applications are just crazy! Think… you are walking down the sidewalk on your lunch break and you decide to hit-up a coffee shop but you are feeling adventurous and want to branch out from the one you usually go to so, you whip out your iPhone, open Robotvision and select the Coffee Shop option… you hold up your iPhone and as you walk down the sidewalk it begins to display all the surrounding coffee shops (in your actual “physical environment”)… you turn to the right and it displays the coffee shops that are down that street, you turn to the left and it displays the coffee shops that are down that street. 8GB iPhone 3GS Confirmed?
August 10, 2009 by Brooke
Filed under Apple, iPhone 3GS, iPhone news
Last week, I wrote about a rumor that strongly indicated the release of an 8GB iPhone 3GS. Well, it seems that the guys over at MacRumors have confirmed this rumor. Apparently, on Roger’s website, there is now a comparison of the iPhone 3GS that includes an 8GB version of the phone. So I guess that the leaked Rogers internal memo from last week was the real deal!

OS v1 – Wallpaper Pack
August 9, 2009 by Brooke
| Available In: Cydia | Price: Free |
OS v1 is a pack of 10 OS inspired wallpapers. This includes Mac, Windows and Linux wallpapers. There is also a random AT&T wallpaper in there as well. I have seen most of these before but, it’s an easy way to get them onto your iPhone or iPod Touch if you want them. Remember, when you install this wallpaper pack, the wallpapers are added to your stock Settings application under Wallpapers. You can get OS v1 via the MacCiti source.
Note: If you would like to manually delete some of the wallpapers once you install the pack, you can ssh into the Library/Wallpapers folder on your iPhone or iPod Touch and delete them from there.

An 8GB iPhone 3GS Coming Soon?

Filed under Apple, iPhone 3GS, iPhone news
The guys over at the BoyGenuisReport say that they have had a few tips recently indicating that Apple is gearing up to release an 8GB iPhone 3GS. It seems Rogers in Canada is “in the process of shipping iPhone 3GS 8GB flavor handsets to stores.” I’m not big into unconfirmed tips and what not but, it seems the they do have a few images that are slightly more convincing.
The info in the image (which apparently looks to be some sort of memo) says:
Rogers has now launched the iPhone 3GS in 8GB Black (120080). Effective immediately, this will be ordere… (120050). In order to complete a smooth transition over to the new piece, inventory levels of the 3G version v… out of stock of an 8GB model. Please keep in mind that we are aiming to reduce our inventory levels signific… model and would ask that as you receive the new SKU that you continue to sell out of the older version prior…
Should you have any questions or concerns regarding this strategy, please email…
Thank you all ahead of time for your help in making this a smooth and easy transition.

QuickTip – Shake your iPhone to Undo/Redo your Previous Text Edits
It’s time for anther QuickTip (a very simple tip about the iPhone or iPod touch). I was reminded of this QuickTip yesterday when making a list in Notes.
QuickTip You can quickly and easily undo and redo text edits by shaking your iPhone. If you delete a portion of your typing, you can shake your iPhone and you will get a pop-up with the option to Undo. When selected, this will bring back the text you deleted.
If you delete more than one portion of test and you shake your iPhone again, you then get the option to Redo or Undo.
This only continues to work as long as the application stays open. Once you close, lets say Notes, you cannot reopen it and “Undo” you last edit.
The Undo feature works basically anywhere you can type. It works to it’s best ability in the Notes application where you can undo and redo any editing that you make. In other applications, it tends to undo everything you typed instead of just undoing the last text edit you made.
I was actually reminded of this QuickTip when I was making a list in my Notes application. I accidentally pasted a long url into my note. I was like, “Man, I really don’t want to sit here and delete this whole thing.” Then I was like, “Wait! I don’t have to” and I just Undid it.
This is a handy little feature that, I think, is easily forgotten about.
