Cydia Cydia has been updated to version 1.0.2948-58. I know a few of you were having issues with Cydia crashing a lot…hopefully this update fixes that! The update does seem to make Cydia run a little smoother. I was hoping it would fix the issues in which no letters are displayed when you search but, it doesn’t seem to. Let me know in the comments if you notice anything.

To update Cydia, all you need to do is open the Cydia application and you will be prompted that there is an essential update. You can then choose to update it.

I took the plunge and finally went to 3.0 and used redsn0w. The upgrade is Overrated and spotlight sucks! Anybody know of a way to disable spotlight?

Yeah, Doug always says it isn’t very good. I haven’t used it much yet. You know what I hate about Spotlight….I have a habit of swiping to the right when I get to my first page of apps, I don’t know why…it’s just a habit, but now it brings up spotlight every time I do that….it is driving me crazy!!

I second that. Is there a way to disable Spotlight Search? I am noticing a trend with my iPhone usage. I pretty much know where everything is and will never use it. Apple is annoying in some ways forcing you to use certain apps with no way to properly disable them.

    Matt on June 22nd, 2009 1:01 pm:

Yeah brooke i do the same thing. I could live with this being a homebutton shorcut option if u enabled it by choice. But i know where my icons r and to me searching by name is just taking away from what i love about the iphones layout. Oh and categories help lol

Ever since I updated to 3.0 I only had cydia crash on me twice….since I updated cydia everytime I try to open it it times out, on the home page…I can still search for stuff but it has crashed twice just searching for stuff since I updated, apparently it had the backwards effect on me, I am not mad b/c this stuff is hard and it takes time and I know the people have other jobs so I am not going to yell and scream like ungrateful people do, I am sure it will be fixed soon….keep working hard everyone, if it wasn’t for you no one would have a customized iPhone….

Same here the home scren isn’t loading but it hasn’t crashed on me yet… I don’t really use cydia all that much anyways i go on it maybe once a month to see if anything new is up but I have all the apps I need there’s really no need to go on it. Doesn’t really bother me too much

    Brandon on June 22nd, 2009 11:23 am:

yea i usually only go on it to see if what i have from there has any updates, but when i rejailbreak my phone i use it alot to get everything i had….thats why it is a pain right now…

  4. Ryan on June 22nd, 2009 11:28 am:

I believe this update fixed a bug whereby javascript debugging (that was added in 3.0) was enabled causing Cydia to slow down. It should run much faster after the update.

When you’re browsing through the list of apps and also in your search results in cydia, where are the line of letters going down the right hand side? Without them it takes ages to get to a letter in the middle of the alphabet!!

    Matt on June 22nd, 2009 1:51 pm:

Hey ive noticed this as well. Though the letters arent present u can still touch as if they were there. Its a guessing game but gets u down the page quicker

  6. John on June 22nd, 2009 12:07 pm:

I get the prompt to upgrade but i keep getting Error Sub-process/usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (2)

Anyone have any ide what I can do?

    Thanks

    Terrafx on June 22nd, 2009 3:43 pm:

You can try sshing on to the phone and then removing all the files in /var/lib/apt/lists/ and /var/lib/apt/lists/partial. Do not remove the /var/lib/apt/lists/partial directory though. Reboot after doing this and then open Cydia.

Same thing is happening to me. I just jailbroke my iPod touch, with 3.0, an hour ago and I can’t install anything. The error message keeps popping up. And Cydia crashes here and there. Icy is a bit more stable but I can’t find Spring or Winterboard. Anybody care to help?

I kinda miss the installer days. Lol.

  7. Aalan on June 22nd, 2009 1:07 pm:

The only thing I noticed is that it takes alonger to load everything…. Like the Internet connection while you are on Cydia sucks

    @Terrafx

Thanks but it looks like I can’t install OpenSSH. Same error message.

I jailbroke the phone last night and it went smooth but immediately started getting these error messages when i tried to install stuff. I guess I’ll redo it. pretty annoying!

I can’t even get cydia to open up. Do I really have to redo the redsnow process for this? Isn’t icy the same thing?

  12. Mifkovy on June 23rd, 2009 1:22 am:

Icy is almost the same. Icy lastly is loosing all of it’s advantages, only one left for me is that it’s more stable.

BTW: Where to report Cydia bugs?
One if that I try to queue too fast (without letting it to load info page it crashes).
