CategoriesSB – Integrate Categories App into SpringBoard

Available In: Cydia       Price: $0.99

##ICON_NAME## Yesterday, CategoriesSB was released in Cydia. CategoriesSB is an application that integrates Categories into the SpringBoard. This is done by loading the folders you create using Categories directly on the SpringBoard instead of loading them as a separate app. What this basically does is allows the folders that you create with Categories to load much faster. This also allows for things like badge support since the folder is directly on the SpringBoard.

You will still need to use the actual Categories application to create, edit, delete and rearrange the applications in the folders you create. You can get CategoriesSB via the BigBoss source.

BigBoss added some info about CategoriesSB on his website:

Developer
Ashikase has written a Springboard add-on for Categories app. What this does is takes categories an moves the folders directly into springboard. The result is that everything loads very quickly, instantly more like. Also, the icons are rounded and badges are supported. Another interesting feature he has added is that if you make a category folder called “Recent” and leave it empty, it will track your last loaded applications. Pretty neat!

This extension to categories was not written by me. Ashikase has written other apps such as backgrounder. He is selling it for 99c in cydia store. If you are interested check it out. If you don’t want to fork out 99 cents, then you can still use categories as it is.

And yes, Categories is still in development and will remain free, but I have been distracted with other stuff recently. But there are plans to integrate some native support for this new extension in the GUI of categories app as well as a long list of things I’ve had planned since 1.1.x time frame…

I have a 3G 3.1.2 and installed this app. It is not working for some apps. For example, when I try to open Minigore or Alive4ever from a Categories folder using this new tweak it crashes my SB! And this wasn’t happening before!

When it works, it works great but it should work for all apps as the way as it was working before on Categories.app!

I just picked this up. It works as advertised. It also keeps the toolbar present while viewing the individual folders. I would like to see that as an option, but I think I like it better with the toolbar showing. Since the toolbar is showing, it prevents accessing the folder options allowing you to configure the folder views. That needs to be available.

Anything to speed up things is great in my book. There does not seem to be any conflicts on my 3GS with the other apps I have.

The jailbreaking community just got a whole lot cooler! I have officially cleared my home screen of all games and all tools into their own folders and the extention works like a dream so far. Man these guys are geniuses!!! The REAL Apple geniuses…NOT the ones that pose as geniuses at those bars at the Apple Stores lol.

i dont think this extension supports badages for background apps since i tried it and i can see any badage, not on the app or folder. But i do see my push notification badage on the tip of the app.

A little disappointed. Regular old Categories never crashed for me.
I bought SB & installed it. I have one Category (the one I use the most!) that will not open, crashes every time.
It has kicked my phone (FW 3.0) into safe mode at least 6 or 7 times!
It also took away “Icon Masking” of the Illumine Winterboard Theme!
    Gonna Uninstall for now!

Is there a way to change the background image? My homescreen bg is HTML, and it looks really bad with all my Categories apps on top of it. Also it would be cool for future versions that if your category folder was on the dock, pushing it while open would close it, similar to stacks.

One option i would like to have is when closing an app within a folder, it should exit to the folder and not to a home screen.

Great App. Made me rejailbreak my iPhone.

Badges support for the folders would be great to see in a future update. For example: if you got a messenger folder with 3 unread SMS and 3 aol messages = a “6″ badge in the folder.

Can you move Internet shortcut app icons to different categories?
