Official Google Voice Application Available in App Store (Again)

The official Google Voice application has hit the App Store (again). The app, created by Google, allows you to;

    • Access your Google Voice account right from your iPhone.
    • Receive push notifications for new text or voicemail messages.
    • Send free text messages to U.S. numbers and make international calls at cheap rates.
    • Listen to your voicemail, read transcripts and manage your Google Voice inbox.
    • Display your Google Voice number as caller ID when making calls.
    • Call contacts from your iPhone Address Book or enter new numbers on the dialpad.

Historic Earth – Overlay Historic Maps on Modern Maps

Historic Earth Historic Earth is a unique mapping application that allows you to overlay historic maps on modern maps. The application uses the Historic Map Works, ” the world’s largest online collection of geo-coded historic maps,” database to find historical maps for cities and States around the United States.

Historic Earth allows you to map your current location, view features locations or search for a specific location.

Once a location has been found, you are given a list of the historic maps available for that specific location. When you select a map it will overlay the historic map on top of the current modern map. You can fade back a forth between the historic map and the modern map using the slider bar at the bottom of the page. This allows you to compare and contrast the two maps. You can also scroll, pan and zoom any map to explore it further. Quickly switch to the next map in the list by using the arrows at the top of the page.

If you are really looking for details… the information icon will give you the the date and title of the historic map as well as the exact Longitude and Latitude of the map.

Wikipedia Release Official App Store Application – Wikipedia Mobile

Wikipedia Mobile Today, Wikipedia launches an official application in the App Store titled Wikipedia Mobile. If you are like me, you have been been using third party Wikipedia applications for some times now. The official Wikipedia app is very simple… we are talking the basics here. It displays your search results in a nice iPhone and iPod touch format other than that, not a lot of features.

You are able to go back to the top of the page using an arrow option, refresh the page and view your search history. That’s about it. The app is “open source and community built” and if you are good at JS/HTML5, you can join in the developing efforts. [Read more…]
