BlackDarkness – WinterBoard Theme

BlackDarkness is a dark theme that includes a ton of mods such as; weather theme, chat bubbles, iPod UI, keyboard, dialer, sliders, badges, dock, statusbar, 260 icons, calculator…etc. Usually I’m not a big fan of themes that change a lot of the UI but, that is only because they usually are not very good. However, I was impressed with the mods in the BlackDarkness theme…they are well designed and fit the theme nicely. If you like themes that mod pretty much everything on your iPhone or iPod Touch…then you might want to check this one out. It is available via the modmyi source.

How to Install

1. Your device must be jailbroken. (how?)
2. Make sure you have WinterBoard installed via Cydia.
2. Make sure you have the modmyi source installed in Cydia.
3. Search for BlackDarkness in Cydia, run the install.
4. Open WinterBoard and activate the BlackDarkness theme.

Flash- WinterBoard Theme

Flash is an interesting theme that is available via the iSpazio source. The stock theme comes with a wallpaper and 42 icons, 19 of which are extra icons that can be labeled (via SSH) as any application you would like. The 19 extra icons actually come in handy since both the Stocks and iTunes icons do not have an icon when the theme is installed stock.

Honestly, it took a little bit of work to get this theme to a state in which I thought it looked good. When you install it, there is no icon for Stocks or iTunes. However, because there are 19 extra icons, you can SSH in and pick any of those 19 and easily rename them to Stocks and iTunes. Also, the theme doesn’t comes with a dock so, I turned on the Transparent Dock and the ReflectiveDock in WinterBoard. This made the theme look better. I did go one step further and changed the wallpaper to just a plain black wallpaper so that there wasn’t so much going on in the theme. PlayGround – WinterBoard Theme

PlayGround is not a new theme for the iPhone and/or iPod Touch…we saw this theme back on the 1.1.4 (and below) firmware. However, it seems it has made it’s way to the 2.x firmware. The theme contains 120 icons (though, once again does not contain an icon for the App Store), a dock and a wallpaper. You can get PlayGround via the iSpazio source.

How to Install

1. Your device must be jailbroken. (how?)
2. Make sure you have WinterBoard installed via Cydia.
2. Make sure you have the iSpazio source installed in Cydia.
3. Search for PlayGround in Cydia, run the install.
4. Open WinterBoard and activate the PlayGround theme.

WinterBoard Updates – Per-Page Wallpaper

In the last week or so there have been a few updates to WinterBoard. The updates do not make any changes to the user interface of the app but, they do add a few cool new options like per page wallpapers….meaning the ability to have a different wallpaper on each page of your SpringBoard. Below is a list of all the changes for each update. Though, I’m still waiting for that huge update that makes WinterBoard a little more user friendly and gives it a nice clean user interface!!

Note: If you would like to have a different wallpaper on each page of your SpringBoard, you will need to label the wallpapers inside your theme as … Page0.png (first page), Page1.png (second page), Page2.png (third page) and so on.

Tecnicolor WinterBoard Theme

Price: Free

Tecnicolor is a WinterBoard theme available via the the modmyi source. When you install Tecnicolor, you will see three themes added to WinterBoard; Tecnicolor iPod Edition, Tecnicolor Lite and Tecnicolor. The Tecnicolor Lite theme basically only includes a StatusBar, Dock and Icons. The Tecnicolor theme includes a few other mods such as a wallpaper, lock background, badges…etc.

This theme does require the Five Icon Dock mod and some rearranging of icons. You will need to put the following icons on your dock (in this order) in order for the theme to work correctly; Contacts, SMS, Phone, Mail and iPod.

Topple WinterBoard Theme

Topple is a theme based on the application Topple (you can check out our video review of the app HERE). The theme includes a slider, 2 docks, 3 wallpapers, dialer and icons. There is a catch, not all apps have icons including; the Stocks, App Store and iTunes applications. However, if you are comfortable with SSHing into your iPhone or iPod Touch, there are 23 additional icons that you can easily rename for any application. The files also includes a .psd file so that you can create your own icons. The developer does say that he is going to add additional mods to the theme so, maybe we will see those three icons added as well (for those of you who do not like SSHing). Below are screenshots.

MyWoodWall WinterBoard Theme

MyWoodWall is a theme that actually uses one of my favorite icon sets (ChalkWork) from back in the day. The only issue I am having with themes is that I have a hard time making them look good with the WeatherIcon and LiveClock mods. I looked (via ssh) to see if there were any blank icons in the set that I could rename as the Weather or Clock icons but, I didn’t see any. You can get the MyWoodWall theme via the iSpazio source. Chalk Board Theme – WinterBoard Theme

Chalk Board is a new theme that was released in Cydia tonight. The package includes a lockscreen, sliders, icons, wallpaper, dock and SMS theme. To have the theme looks it’s best, you will want to make sure to have the icon and dock icon labels turned off via WinterBoard (select No Docked Icon Labels and No Undocked Icon Labels in WinterBoard). This theme is currently available via the ModMyi source however, the developer says that it will also be released via the MacCiti source which will be the source it is updated through.

Parts WinterBoard Theme

Parts is a new theme that is avialable via the MacCiti source. It reminds me of a few other of my favorite themes…it has an abstract feel to it. The theme includes the basic mods; wallpaper, icons, dock and status bar. Check it out!
