Jailbroken vs. Stock

AiS I honestly do not mind restoring my iPhone, I think I have it down to an art now, however there is just something about a completely stock iPhone that feels just so…limiting. As cool as the iPhone is, even stock, it is soooo much better jailbroken! The ability to add more application, giving the iPhone even more functionality, is essential and I’m glad more people will be able to experience with the launch of the App Store. However, having more applications on your iPhone is nothing compared to a custom modded iPhone. This is where having an iPhone becomes personal and the reason so many of us fall in love with our iPhones.

A custom theme, battery, dock, wallpaper, wifi bars, signal bars, carrier logo, system strings, lock screen…is what makes our iPhones, our iPhones. I personally cannot live without [Read more…]

New Featured Widget

AppleiPhoneSchool We have added a new scrolling widget to our website (thanks to Adam). It will scroll through some of the Featured articles, pages and information. It is clickable….so, click away! Enjoy!

On a side note, I have also added two new tutorials to our f.a.q page! YAY!

Updated f.a.q Page

Apple iPhone School We are going to be spending some time during the next few weeks updating our f.a.q page. We will be updating the information, the organization and adding new tutorials. I have already added three new tutorials under the Installer section and have many more on my list!! If you have any requests for tutorials…let us know in the comments.

AppleiPhoneSchool is Feeling Much Better!!

AppleiPhoneSchool Thanks to Mosso, AppleiPhoneSchool is doing much better! Since yesterday, you should no longer be experiencing any lag while viewing the site. Please let us know in the comments if the site is running better for you. Also, last night, Conrad from Mosso fixed our comments! YAY! You should now be able to leave a comment and it will show up immediately! Please remember to keep comments G rated (sorry, had to throw that in there). :)

Another AWESOME new features we have just implemented here at AppleiPhoneSchool, is a new page system. Adam (remember our new programmer) has just finished coding us a new page system. It will take some time to get it implemented into the entire site however, you can check it out on the SimplifyMedia, ParkingLot and Text pages. Basically this allows for a static page for all the info about an app. For example, the ParkingLot link is appleiphoneschool.com/parkinglot These pages include feature lists, source, bugs, wish list, add to iAppCat button, screenshot, star rating system, and a video review. Remember to vote using the stars below the screenshot!

AppleiPhoneSchool Under the Weather

AppleiPhoneSchool AppleiPhoneSchool.com is currently having a few issues that we are trying to work out.

First, we are having a problem with the website randomly hanging while trying to load a page. We have contacted Mosso about this and they are looking into it.

Secondly, our Spam Filter has decided to become massively over protective!! That is why you are not seeing your comments post immediately. I apologize to those of you have retyped/reposted you comments multiple times! You only need to type your comment once it will not post immediately but, it will post.

Please be patient with us and we work these things out! Thanks!

~ Brooke

UPDATE: Please let us know how the site is loading for you. I would love to hear your experience.

AppleiPhoneSchool Has a New Look

AppleiPhoneSchool We have recently updated the theme for the mobile version of AppleiPhoneSchool.com. We were inspired by the iPhone compatible version of thewiicast.com. We have made a few changes to the theme making it a little more custom. You will continue to see changes as we finish customizing it. One of the features that I personally like is the ability to quickly see all the articles. You can then tap the arrow to get a snippet of the article and the ability to read the entire article. We will be changing it so that when you tap the arrow you will see the entire article, keep an eye out for that! Below is a list of a few more great features this theme offers! Enjoy!

New Features:
Search option
Menu option
Ability to view full site
Comments badge
Easily Email articles
Easily Bookmark articles
Links to previous and next articles

Note: We are still trying to work out a few kinks like, selecting an image to enlarge it.

AppleiPhoneSchool has a New Employee!

AiS We are really excited to have another addition to the AppleiPhoneSchool.com team! Yesterday we hired Adam as a programer for the site. Doug has already put him to work with a ton of projects!! You will start to see some of his projects implemented very soon. His talents will make the site function smoother, give it some great new features and also help make my job more efficient! YAY! You will not see posts from Adam (all his work is behind the scenes) so, make sure to welcome him to AppleiPhoneSchool in the comments of this post! Enjoy!

Malicious Source – ipkg.mcafeemobile.com

We where skeptical of a comment that was posted on our site today and after some research….below is what we found!

Via ModMyiFone.com:

Do not add the source http://ipkg.mcafeemobile.com to Installer. It contains a Malicious Application that resets all .plist files, giving the iPhone/iPod touch a spinning wheel of death (SWOD)…

Via AlliPodHax from iPodTouchFans forum:

A repo that claims to be an official McAfee program for the iPod/iPhone and even has a redirect to mcafee.com has been found suddenly in installer, (If you use my source then there is no problem, I remove it)

The Repo is “http://ipkg.mcafeemobile.com”

DO NOT USE IT, I SPOKE TO MCAFEE OFFICIALS AND THEY SAID ITS A FAKE AND THEY MIGHT BRING A LEGAL SUIT AGAINST THEM!!

Also IT Totally messed up my iPhone, so there you go I break my things to save you guys…

My Repo Is http://ihacks.us/index.xml

Cheers,
Ben.

The list of warnings was extensive! So, do not install this source. If you have already installed it, you may want to uninstall it ASAP. Whatever you do, do not actually run the app (hit the Scan button) or it might delete all of your Installer .plist files – which hopefully you backed-up using TimeCapsule – if not, you could lose them all.

More Logo Designs

Hi guys! I have spent the last two hours using Photoshop (which, I must say, is not always cooperative!) to edit, convert and upload more of our Logo Design Contest entries to the Logo Contest’s flickr set. I did a quick calculation and we have around 200 logos submitted so far! Which means Photoshop and I will be spending quite a bit of quality time together! Keep an eye on our flckr page to see the new logo submissions as they are added! Or, you can see a slideshow of them on the Logo Design Contest page.

Note: You have until midnight (CST) on Wednesday, April 23rd Tuesday, April 22nd (that’s tonight) to sumbit your entries. Sorry about the massive typing error!!
