Happy Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving Happy Thanksgiving from everyone here at AppleiPhoneSchool.com! We hope everyone has a great day full of relaxation and time spent with family! Doug and I traveled all last night and are spending today with family! YAY!

Side Note: Doug broke his iPhone while we were traveling last night (updating Installer…do not ask me why he updated Installer!!) and had to restore to firmware 2.2 with no computer to sync with iTunes (we brought my laptop). So, his iPhone isn’t jailbroke and he is feeling very sad!

iPhone 101 – Episode 11

Apple iPhone SchoolAlthough this was recorded in HD, it has been resized and compressed to make it a smaller file size. The file is still large because of the length of the recording. If none of those excuses are acceptable, I blame it on a PC. Someday I will have a mac…

AppleiPhoneSchool.com Updates

Ais Doug has updated our Jailbreak Page with the latest information about jailbreaking firmware 2.2. He has also updated our Firmware Page to include firmware 2.2 for the iPhone and iPod Touch.

Also, for those of you who haven’t seen it…he recently updated our Twitter Page as well. Check it out!

3G….Finally!!!

AiS Guys…I’m soo excited. I sat down to write a few posts as we travel and what happens, I look down and I have 3G on my iPhone!!! We do not have 3G where we live (we are supposed to have it no later than Thanksgiving) but we are currently going through Minneapolis, Minnesota and for the first time we have 3G!! YAY!! So, I took a few screenshots and Doug did a quick network test using iNetwork Test (an App Store app). We are currently getting around 1304kbps download where we normally get between 50-150kps. So…I was totally excited. It is amazing what a difference there is when you have 3G!! Everything seems to run faster…even just loading all my text messages! Let us know in the comments what you think of your 3G or lack there of!

Where Has Brooke Been?

ais Those of you who follow our Twitter (ahhyeah & bporter) most likely already know the scope however, for those of you who do not follow our Twitter (shame on you!) I will give a quick run down. I’m pregnant (YAY!) and for some reason my body thinks that pregnancy is some sort of disease that needs to be killed off, leaving me sick morning, afternoon, evening, middle of the night…basically whenever I am awake. However, my body is finally starting to realize that pregnancy is here to stay for a while and is easing up a bit. Which means it time for me to get back into the swing of things! It is going to take me a few days to get caught up and get back into the routine but, in the next week or so AppleiPhoneSchool.com should be back to it’s old self…at least on the days that I’m not puking my guts out, or feel like I’m going to! :) We also have a new writer who we will be introducing to you guys in the next few days. So, that is cool! Enjoy the site and if you have a pregnant wife, give her an extra kiss!

Grid Today

As I said in our video podcast, we recently did a case study with Mosso, our hosting provider. This in turn spawns interviews with news and blogs. Grid Today is a website all about the type of hosting that Mosso provides. Derrick Harris recently interviewed us and published the following article as a result.

In some ways, it is the story of the American dream: husband and wife from a small Iowa town embark on a project as a hobby; project slowly builds a following; and, before you know it, the project becomes the most popular entity in its niche, turning a side project into a profitable business. Firmware 2.0 working on Brooke’s iPhone

Brooke’s iPhone upgraded with no problems at all. We’re gonna keep mine on 1.1.4 so we can continue to review Installer apps too. Here’s a screenshot:

UPDATE: Some people have asked how we did all of this. Here’s how I did it. First you need to go to Apple’s Website and download the new 7.7 iTunes. Remember, if you want to keep your iPhone jailbroke or unlocked DON’T UPGRADE :) So, then you need the firmware which you can get at our Firmware Page. Then just use restore in iTunes but hold the shift key when you click restore and select the 2.0 firmware you downloaded. Hope that helps!

What Apps Do You Want Reviewed First?

Apple iPhone SchoolWe will be reviewing apps as soon as the iPhone 2.0 firmware is released. What apps do you want us to review first. This includes all paid for apps so you know what you’re getting before you buy. Let us know in the comments and we’ll get them bought and reviewed. Also, let us know any other information you’re looking for in the next few days. We have some really big ideas for the next 24 hours so stay tuned!

AppleiPhoneSchool’s Live Video Streaming and Chat of iPhone 3G Launch

AiS Friday, July 11th Doug and I will be at our local Apple Store bright and early. We will be live streaming the launch of the iPhone 3G starting between 7:30-7:45am CST. You will be able to watch everything from waiting in line to purchasing the iPhone 3G to the unboxing of our new iPhone’s…all live. When you visit AppleiPhoneSchool.com tomorrow morning, the live video feed will be embedded on the front page. We will also be embedding our chat below the live video feed, that way you guys can chat about what is going on. It should be a good time!

Happy Independence Day!

Icon Happy 4th of July from everyone here at Apple iPhone School. We hope you get to enjoy the Holiday relaxing and spending time with family and friends. Maybe even see some fireworks (we lit sparklers last night!).

PS…we realize this doesn’t apply to everyone so, if it doesn’t, we hope you have a great day too!
