Friday Night Movie Night: Apple iPhone 4 vs Motorola Droid X

YouTubeIntomobile is doing a comparison of the iPhone 4 and one of the most powerful Android phones on the market today, the Droid X. From what I can see, it has an extra mic and extra flash, otherwise I’ll keep my iPhone. I do like the notification system better on the Android software, but even with this high power of a device, the software is still laggy and glitchy. This is part 1 so as more videos are released, we’ll try to get them here.

Android OS Working on iPhone 3G

GoogleRecently we wrote about Google’s Android OS working on an iPhone. This is really kewl and I can’t wait for it to be released as a stable package. Right now a few things don’t work and it’s a tedious task to get it installed. What’s new is that it’s now running on an iPhone 3G. Before it was running on only the 1st Gen iPhone.

The hope is that you should soon be able to carry around your first-generation iPhone or iPhone 3G running Android and use it just as normally as you would any other Android phone.

Android Firmware Running on the iPhone [video]

GoogleI have been waiting for this for a while and actually forgot about it. Since Google Android is open source it makes it a little easier to install on the iPhone. Known in the hacking world as planetbeing, in the video he starts with the 1st Gen iPhone booted into the iPhone OS. Then after turning off and back on the iPhone, he shows how he hacked linux to dual boot and then load the Android software. A few things are a little weird, one being the fewer amount of buttons on the iPhone. In the video you see him make a call, receive a text and connect to wifi.

iDroid – WinterBoard Theme

Available In: Cydia       Price: Free

iDroid idroid3 iDroid is a unique theme that is based on the Google Andriod. The theme contains 38 icons, a dock, wallpaper, lockscreen background, badges and other UI mods. The theme is not packaged for the 3.x firmware so, the Text icon is labeled incorrectly. To fix it, you can ssh into the library/Themes/iDroid/Icons folder and change Text.png to Messages.png. I also noticed that one of the screenshots in Cydia shows SpringJumps on the Dock… I haven’t exactly figured that out yet. You can get iDroid via the MacCiti source. [Read more…]

FontSwap Font: DroidSans (Google Android Font)

FontSwapNow that FontSwap is working for firmware 3.0 I tried it out for the first time. I’ve never really changed the font of my iPhone in the past but I thought I would today. The first thing I noticed was there were only a few options that came with the app so I started looking in Cydia for some more. There were a few more but a few sources weren’t working and I just wasn’t satisfied with the choices. Then a local tweep (twitter acquaintance) posted a screenshot of his iPhone with the Google Android font. I asked him where he got it and he pointed me to the MacThemes forum. Someone who was porting over fonts had recent done the Android font. You can download it here: http://www.sendspace.com/pro/dl/tuxqui [Read more…]
