Odessa, Ukraine – July 28, 2009 – Today Readdle announces the upcoming launch of Cannons, a pirate-themed puzzle game, on the Apple App Store. Cannons utilizes a classic puzzle genre with addictive story driven gameplay, three action packed game modes, an innovative ship upgrade system and worldwide scoreboard.

Cannons is a story about vicious pirates, great sea battles and enormous treasures. Players take command on the ship to fight enemy captains and fortresses in a quest to obtain the gold. The battle is based on linking tiles with fuses to a burning torch thus firing on-board cannons. By firing multiple cannons at once players can earn coins that can be used to upgrade the ship’s weaponry.

The game challenges players by increasing the number of shots required to win each fight as the storyline progresses. Additionally, there are three separate battle modes: the Classic Battle Mode which limits the time allotted to defeat the enemy, the Strategic Battle Mode which provides only a fixed number of torches per fight, and the Arcade Battle Mode which requires players to complete the level before new tiles fill up the screen.

“Stunning graphics, a compelling storyline, three distinct game modes, and an online scoreboard system—all essential ingredients of a really good iPhone game; however, only precisely-tuned controls and gameplay as addictive as Cannons can elevate a good game to this level of greatness. There are few truly original puzzles on the App Store that can keep people entertained for hours and there is no doubt that Cannons is certainly one of them,” – said Alexander Tyagulsky, Readdle CMO.

Pricing and Availability:

Cannons will be available on the App Store at the beginning of August at the price of USD $2.99. More information about the game can be found at Readdle’s web site (www.readdle.com)

Brick Avoid – In the App Store

Available In: App Store       Price: $0.99

BrickAvoid If you have been around the jailbreak scene for a little while, you are probably familiar with Brick Avoid. Well, Brick Avoid has been available in the App Store since early June. I always like it when jailbreak games hit the App Store!

The object of the game has not changed, you still want to avoid being hit by the bricks for as long as possible, however it does have a new look and some new features. The color scheme is now blue instead of orange and it has a nice moving sky background on the play screen instead of a plain orange screen. As for new features, you can see your time as you play and there is a Highscores option (which did not work in the jailbroke version of the game). [Read more…]

SlideRules – Puzzle Game

Available In: App Store       Price: $1.99

SlideRules Growing up, I used to love those little number puzzles that you’d get in “goody-bags” where you would try to position little plastic number pieces in the correct order on a plastic square. When I received the application SlideRules by AntHill Games, I initially thought that this game would be similar to those nostalgic games. After playing with the app, I learned that SlideRules actually offered more than just a one time opportunity to have fun. [Read more…]

Word Tower – Think Tetris with Letters

Available In: App Store       Price: $0.99

Word Tower Word Tower is like playing Tetris with letters. I love the developer’s description of the app – “What do you get when you mix up Scrabble, Boggle and Tetris and add the flipping, shaking and sliding that only the iPhone/iTouch can do? WORD TOWER!”

That is exactly what it is…you have to created words from the letters. You create words by dragging your finger over the letters that form a word. If you create a word, the letters will disappear however, you have to do it quickly because more letters are falling. The cool part is that you can “grab” the letters and move them around as they are falling so that you can strategically create more words.

As you move through the levels, new blocks are introduced. Some of the blocks give you additional points when used, some have to be used a certain number of times before they disappear…etc. The one that gets me is the snowflake. When a snowflake drops you have to shake your device, before it touches another letter, which then changes all your letters. So here you are building a strategy and along comes a snowflake and messes it all up!

iTunnel 3D Lite – Coming Soon to the App Store

Available In: App Store       Price: Free

##ICON_NAME## About two months ago, Doug wrote about an application called iTunnel3D. He liked the game so much that he said it was right up there with his favorite game FieldRunners. It seems that the developers are finally ready to launch the app in the App Store. They recently submitted a lite version of the game called iTunnel 3D Lite to Apple. I was able to get my hands on a demo of it and it is totally sweet! They will also be submitting a full version of the app called iTunnel 3D Classic. Below are the features of both the lite and the full version of the app. [Read more…]

Touch Ski 3D – A 3D Skiing Experience

Available In: App Store       Price: $0.99

Touch Ski 3D One of the reasons I bought a Wii was so that I could run, jump, ski, and hula hoop all in the comforts of my home. The Wii and corresponding Wii Fit have revolutionized the gaming industry, and I suspect that Apple has taken some notes and plan to do the same with portable gaming. Honestly, I didn’t expect to experience anything close to the same with my iPhone, but the folks at Naquatic, the makers of Touch Ski 3D, attempt to prove me wrong with their newly updated game.

Overview
When I initially received this game, it was version 1.0 and only had a few levels. Since then, a completely updated version has been released and includes a variety of options and games. A wide selection of game modes now exist including ski school (training mode), race, freestyle park, distance jump, slalom, tight slalom, and freestyle jump. Other options include choosing your ski color, adjusting the volume of effects and music (which by the way happens to be the most chill music of all the games I’ve ever played), and checking in on high scores both personal and online. Sway – Swing and Sway Your Way Through This Game

Available In: App Store       Price: $4.99

Sway I’ll admit to not being much of an avid gamer, even less so on the iPhone. However, I do appreciate it when a game takes advantage of unique controls. I bought a Wii because it was different, and I enjoy learning new ways to become more interactive with games as opposed to those that increasingly use more buttons or different combination of keypad controls. On the iPhone, the use of the touch screen has opened up another genre of gaming, and Sway attempts to “tap” into this area.

Overview
Just looking at the opening screen, which resembles a page out a comic book, I knew that this game was going to be special. You have a choice of characters that you will add to as the game progresses. There is a nice instructional video embedded in the game (not the usual link to a website) that the tutorial walks you through the process of swaying in the game. Essentially, you use your two thumbs as the hands of your character. By moving your thumb side to side or in a circular motion, your character will spin and upon release of your thumb, your character will let go and grab onto something only if you press again with your thumb. Once you’re ready to start your game, you can choose from multiple levels, many of which are initially locked, but open up as you gain more experience and complete additional levels. Each level contains a number of stars that you’re supposed to collect, a time goal, and occasionally a “save friend” goal, which ultimately unlocks new characters for you to choose from. Star Defense

Lasers – Make the Lasers Pass Through all the Diamonds

Available In: App Store       Price: $0.99

Lasers Lasers (formally known as Nodes) is an application in which you have to drag the nodes around inorder to move the lasers so that they are passing through every diamond on the screen. At first, it is very simple and doesn’t take a whole lot of brain power but, it quickly becomes difficult and you have to kick those problem-solving skills into gear.

To move the nodes, just drag them around. The game does support mutli-touch which allows you to move more than one node at a time. As you get to the upper levels, some of the nodes become stationary and cannot be moved. [Read more…]

Star Defense – More Video Demos

Available In: App Store       Price: Coming Soon

Star Defense In my original review of Star Defense, we had been informed that the game would be released in the month of May. Since then, we have seen a few more demo videos and the projected May released date has been removed from any info. However, ngmoco (the developers of Star Defense), have a Press Event coming up on June 8th for Star Defense along with a few of there other apps (fast-paced shooter Death Match: Live Fire, the charming pet simulator Touch Pets: Dogs and the epic Rolando 2: Quest for the Golden Orchid).

Whether we actually see the apps released that day or not…I’m not sure but, it has got to mean that we are getting close. Below are a couple more demo videos then have released in the past few days [Read more…]
