iPhone Firmware 3.0 Preview (liveblog)

AppleToday Apple will be previewing new firmware for the iPhone and iPod Touch. Apple has said nothing about features yet but there are lots of rumors including copy & paste and MMS (picture messaging). There’s also rumors of a better graphical interface to keep up with the new Palm Pre. The event will start at the following time: 7:00am Hawaii, 10:00am Pacific, 11:00am Mountain, 12:00pm Central, 1:00pm Eastern, 5:00pm London, 6:00pm Paris, 2:00am Tokyo (March 18th)

iPhone Firmware 3.0 Poll

Apple What better day to get back into the groove of things than the day that Apple announces it’s 3.0 firmware for the iPhone. As many of you know, there are a ton of rumors of what the new firmware will bring…anything from picture messaging to new graphics to the ability to have apps run in the background.

New iPhone 3.0 Firmware Preview From Apple Next Tuesday

AppleMany sites are posting about Apple doing a preview of the iPhone 3.0 firmware next Tuesday. Of course there are all kinds of ideas about what they will be announcing. I’m really waiting for the notification system that functions kinda like a SMS message that developers can use to push notifications to your iPhone. Examples like AIM message notifications, Ebay outbid notices, Twitter updates, News & Sports Scores Alerts, Woot-Offs, Weather Alerts, etc. This will bring the iPhone to another level.

Other major features that really should have never been left out are things like MMS (Picture Messaging) & Copy and Paste. We’ll make sure we stay on top of it and keep you up today on the latest rumors and actual announcements coming March 17th. And of course this might all be leading up to the 3rd iPhone :)

iPhone 3G Available for At Home Activation?

The iPhone rumor mill is hot with a rumor that AT&T is now allowing for at home activation of the iPhone 3G. It seems that AT&T is now allowing the purchase of the 3G iPhone online and then instead of going to an AT&T store to activate it, you are able to activate it via iTunes. Now, I have read quite a few article about this rumor and have done some research on AT&T’s website (as well as talked to a AT&T rep – see below). Every article I have read says that it is an “unconfirmed” report BG has the most convincing report saying,

“While we haven’t spoken to any of our ninjas to confirm this yet, we did speak to three customer service reps as well as someone in the office of the President – each confirming that at-home activation is a go.”

Many of you know that when MobileMe (me.com) was launched, you were able to sign up for a free trial to test out the new service. When you signed up for the trial subscription you were required to enter credit card information. Well, it seems that the MobileMe trial has come to an end.

appleApple is having a huge event at at 10 a.m. Pacific, 1 p.m. Eastern on Tuesday. There are rumors from new Nanos, MacBooks, the longed for tablet and even an update to Apple TV with an HD Tuner, Blueray and DVR (yeah right). We’re gonna stick to the iPhone and iPod here which is still a lot of info.

So far rumors include firmware 2.1. What will this include? Copy and Paste? Background notification service such as instant messaging we’ve seen in previewed in other keynotes. The iPhone itself most likely won’t get any upgrades. If anything it would be colors or capacity changes. The big deal is probably the iPod Touch.

Changing to a look like the iPhone and adding a couple features like external speakers or mic is my guess. I’d also hope for a camera, GPS, Bluetooth, volume controls, etc, just like the iPhone. Basically and iPhone without the Phone. I know this would be huge! I know a couple friends that bought the 1st Gen iPhone just to jailbreak it and use it without service to get the camera, mic, speakers, etc.
