Readdledocs – Document and File Management Solution

Available In: App Store       Price: $9.99

ReaddledocsInterestingly, after writing a review about iDownload, and reading and responding to a reader’s comment, I began to consider what it would be like to tap into the possibility of using the iPhone as a mobile storage utility. First, I explored Air Sharing, since I downloaded it for free a few months ago, but never actually setup the program. I was impressed with its ease of use, but was disappointed that only WiFi access was available. Upon reading that Readdledocs supported 3G or EDGE connections as well, I became further intrigued.

Overview
Similar to Air Sharing, upon opening Readdledocs, you can view your files and file folders available on your iPhone. When you open a file, the document appears on screen, and the application supports many file formats including the common MS Office file types and PDF files. There is an extensive PDF manual that comes with the program that effectively explains all of the features that come with this program. There are a lot of bells and whistles included (reading ebooks, iDisk access, and exchanging files with other users), but I will stick to the ones that mattered to me the most. In addition to the iPhone’s storage, your purchase of Readdledocs comes with a 512 MB of online storage where you can keep more files of your choosing. A web browser is also included for you to download documents directly into Readdledocs. For an extensive list of features, check out their website. [Read more…]

mAdvLock – Password Protect Applications and Sim Card…Encrypt Files

Available In: Cydia       Price: Free & $14.99

mAdvLock mAdvLock is an application that allows you to password protect App Store, Stock and Jailbroken application as well as your Sim Card. It also allows you to encrypt files on your iPhone or iPod Touch allowing them to only be viewed within the application.

Ok, applications like these always make me a little nervous. Honestly, it is for these type of apps that I ALWAYS whip out one of the test iPhones instead of using my personal iPhone! :) So, as usual, one of our test iPhone’s was the guinea pig for this one and after some testing, I was pleasantly surprised with this application.

When you first install mAdvLock, it will respring your SpringBoard. Once that is finished, and you open the application, you will notice that it informs you that the stock password is 123 and that you need to reboot your device. So, as the app says….reboot your device! Once you have rebooted, go ahead and reopen the app (the password is 123). Now, you will see a lower menu bar with the options; App Lock, Finder, Coffer, Settings and Help. The first thing you will want to do is go into the Settings. Here you can change your password and create a little hint for if you forget your password (though, I would highly suggest not forgetting your password for this app!!). In the Settings, you can also turn on the SIM Card password protects. [Read more…]

iDownload – Download and share files directly from your iPhone or iPod Touch

Available In: App Store       Price: $0.99

iDownload I must admit that I’ve had this app on my iPhone for a while now, and I had been putting off writing the review. Honestly, I wasn’t quite sure what to do with this app, and I wanted to make sure I explored all of the possible uses before I made my final opinions. First, the most obvious use for this application is to allow one to download files directly onto the iPhone. I haven’t had much use for this. For one, the iPhone does not have a built-in method for accessing files as my previous Windows Mobile devices did. There’s no “My Computer” to be found (thankfully) on my iPhone home screen. Thus, I’ve never been tempted to download and store any files on my iPhone. If I needed to look at a file, the iPhone usually took care of this by opening the PDF, Word, or Excel document and that was that.

Overview
With iDownload, you are able to download files directly to your iPhone, as well as share files with any web-enabled device. This is supposed to be two-way, so files can be transferred both to and from the iPhone. Although the instructions on the website state that it would be “easy as 1, 2, 3”, I decided to put each function to the test. My results follow below: [Read more…]

iPhoneBrowser – An iPhone/iPod Touch File Browser

I just ran across this really great tool…it allows you to view the folder and files on your iPhone/iPod Touch using an application on your computer called iPhoneBrowser (sorry Mac users, it is PC only). The nice thing about this application is that it is easier to set up than SSH and your iPhone doesn’t even need to be jailbroke in order to use it! Though, if your iPhone is not jailbroke, you will not be able to see many of the folders because Apple restricts the access. If you would like to learn more about jailbreaking your iPhone, please see our Jailbreak page.

To use the application all you need to do is download the iPhoneBrowser file to your computer. You can go [Read more…]
