Dev-Team Releases New Version of redsn0w

The Dev-Team has updated redsn0w to version 0.9.6beta5 for unlockers. Below is all the info.

Update #2: The new redsn0w 0.9.6beta5 is out. It gives both Windows and OSX users the ability to flash the iPad 06.15 baseband on iPhone3G or iPhone3GS. It fetches the baseband files directly from Apple for now (the only IPSW you ever point it at is the stock IPSW for the FW on your iPhone right now). There may be a long delay while it’s doing this (their servers are currently getting pounded).

* Windows (SHA1 7250416e17c3aea9838cdfc73712b38b025e2ed0)

If you do flash your baseband via redsn0w, please keep it plugged into USB the whole time. You don’t want your battery to die during the flash process!

What a “Tethered” Jailbreak Means for iOS 4.2.1

As I mentioned yesterday, the current redsn0w jailbreak for iOS 4.2.1 is currently still a tethered jailbreak for some devices. The Dev-Team has updated their recent post on jailbreaking iOS 4.2.1 with a definition of what a tethered jailbreak means. A great idea! Dev-Team Says Upgrade to iTunes 10.1 for Best Jailbreaking Results

The Dev-Team has just updated their post about the new redsn0w jailbreak (which allows the ability to jailbreak iOS 4.2.1) saying that you should be on version 10.1 of iTunes to have the best jailbreaking results. They just added the disclaimer to the bottom of their current post.

Dev-Team Updates About iOS 4.2.1 – Including New Version of redsn0w Jailbreak

The Dev-Team has updated their blog with information about iOS 4.2.1. The first thing to note is that ultrasn0w unlockers should not upgrade to iOS 4.2.1 (read below for more info). The second bit of info is that they have updated redsn0w to version 0.9.6b4 which jaibreaks iOS 4.2.1 however, you will want to read all the info below because some devices are still a tethered jailbreak. redsn0w is available for both the Mac and PC (links below).

Dev-Team Releases New Version of redsn0w – Jailbreaks 4.2.1

Yesterday, the Dev-Team updated redsn0w. The update allows the ability to jailbreak iOS 4.2.1 as well as install custom bundles. However, it is not compatible with the new version of Cydia and is still a tethered jailbreak for some devices. This jailbreak is created for people who are comfortable with the jailbreak process. Make sure you read all of the Dev-Teams info (below) before you give it a shot.

redsn0w Jailbreak For Firmware 3.1.2

dev teamYou now have another option to jailbreak your iPhone on firmware 3.1.2. redsn0w had finally been released. It has been in beta stage but is now complete. You can download it and read more at the Dev Team’s blog at blog.iphone-dev.org. This jailbreak is like blackra1n where you don’t have to restore your iPhone in order to jailbreak. PwnageTool creates a custom firmware you restore your iPhone with. redsn0w 0.9 comes with new features like changing the boot logo! You will lose any unlocks and if you have a new iPhone 3GS or iPod touch out of the box 3.1.2, it still a tethered jailbreak:

This version of redsn0w does not provide an untethered jailbreak for those of you with brand new iPhone 3GS, iPod touch 2G, or any iPod touch 3G. redsn0w will jailbreak those but it will still be a tethered jailbreak until some new exploit is found and released.

redsn0w Update – Jailbreak for iPhone 3GS, Hactivated Devices and Linux Version

redsn0w With the release of ultrsn0w 0.8, a software unlock, the Dev-Team has also updated redsn0w, Dev-Team’s jailbreak, to version 0.8. The updated version of redsn0w will jailbreak the iPhone 3GS, hactivated devices and includes a Linux version of the jailbreak.

redsn0w (2nd Gen iPod Touch Jailbreak) F.A.Q

Dev Team Well, there hasn’t been any further information (since the video this week-end) on how things are coming along with the 2nd gen iPod Touch jailbreak. redsn0w – Jailbreak for iPod Touch 2G (2nd Generation) Video

The Dev Team, specifically MuscleNerd, has released a video via qik.com of a jailbroken iPod Touch 2G (2nd Generation). Unfortunatly the jailbreak only works when tethered (connected via USB) to a computer. They are working on a fix for this but have proven the jailbreak to work by running terminal, Cydia and an NES Emulator (Nintendo). 2nd Gen iPod Touch Jailbreak Screenshot

Dev Team It seems they (the Dev Team) are getting closer to the 2nd Generation iPod Touch jailbreak. They recently posted the first screenshot of a jailbroke 2nd gen iPod Touch on their website. However, it seems that the process has not yet been perfected and isn’t quite ready for public release. So far, there is no ETA on when the jailbreak will be available.
