AppStore Apps Crashing – Restore

AppStore It has been a few days since I have been able to catch up on iPhone news, as those of you who follow Doug or my Twitter know (ahhyeah and bporter), I’m not feeling well lately! Well today, I was taking a look at the list of 25 top free apps and was suprised to see one that I was very familiar with…Earth3D. Well, I installer Earth3D however, when I went to open it, it just crashed back to the SpringBoard. So, I decided to go try another application…which crashed as well. This is on my personal iPhone (not one of our test iPhones) so, it only has the AppStore and is not jailbroken. I did notice that I was having some issues last night while recording our video podcast but didn’t think anything of it. Well, it seems that ALL my AppStore apps are crashing, not a single app will stay open. So, after trying a few fixes, wishing my iPhone was jailbroken so I had SSH access and finally giving up…I ended up restoring. And like Doug, will be jailbreaking my 2.0.1 firmware using WinPwn 2.0.0.4. I’m curious to know if anyone else has had this problem and if you were able to fix it or ended up restoring.

Urbanspoon Meets the iPhone – AppStore

Urbanspoon Urbanspoon is a website that provides information and reviews for restaurants. The restaurants are based on location. Well, they have taken this concept and created it into an application for the iPhone.

“We wanted to take advantage of the physicality of the iPhone, so we’re using the accelerometer,” said Urbanspoon co-founder Ethan Lowry. “So we’ve developed an application for the iPhone that’s part slot machine, part Magic 8-Ball.”

So far, the application includes restaurant information for 38 locations in the US and 3 in Canada. The best part is that it will be free. Check out the demo video below.

Aki Mahjong Solitaire

amiconAki Mahjong Solitaire by Ambrosia, is being previewed next week at WWDC in San Francisco and will be in the AppStore when it launches. Here is what Ambrosia has to say about Aki Mahjong Solitaire and a video demo of the app. You can see screenshots of the app HERE.

Ambrosia’s first game for the iPhone elegantly blends the ancient Chinese game of Mahjong with an enchanting journey across Japan. Designed from the ground up specifically for iPhone, it’s a modern fusion of two ancient Asian cultures, and is as much an experience as it is a game. Aki is easy to learn even if you still haven’t mastered chopsticks, so don’t hesitate to dive right in. We think you’ll soon find yourself captivated.

Our iPhone game philosophy is to provide games you can pick up and play whenever you want, then dismiss quickly to take that phone call you just received. Just hit the Home button at any time, and whenever you relaunch Aki, you’re right back where you left off!

An intern at Freeverse has written a pretty good article written about the app…they have all the fun information blotted out and there is only artwork from the cutscreen (no screenshots) but, it is an interesting article none then less. There is one paragraph in the article that has me most excited about the AppStore:

When the iTunes App Store finally opens its virtual doors, forget about the iPhone as “just a phone.” On that red-letter day, whenever it happens to be, the iPhone will be well on its way to become a premiere gaming platform.
