It has been a few days since I have been able to catch up on iPhone news, as those of you who follow Doug or my Twitter know (ahhyeah and bporter), I’m not feeling well lately! Well today, I was taking a look at the list of 25 top free apps and was suprised to see one that I was very familiar with…Earth3D. Well, I installer Earth3D however, when I went to open it, it just crashed back to the SpringBoard. So, I decided to go try another application…which crashed as well. This is on my personal iPhone (not one of our test iPhones) so, it only has the AppStore and is not jailbroken. I did notice that I was having some issues last night while recording our video podcast but didn’t think anything of it. Well, it seems that ALL my AppStore apps are crashing, not a single app will stay open. So, after trying a few fixes, wishing my iPhone was jailbroken so I had SSH access and finally giving up…I ended up restoring. And like Doug, will be jailbreaking my 2.0.1 firmware using WinPwn 22.214.171.124. I’m curious to know if anyone else has had this problem and if you were able to fix it or ended up restoring.
PosiMotion is set to have four application available in the App Store on July 11th, with Backgammon and G-Life coming soon. The four apps that will be available the day of the launch include; G-Spot, G-Park, Top 3 Solitaire and Pool. What I find to be interesting (and exciting) is that this is yet another list of applications that includes apps that were previously available through the Installer. Where Tapulous is bringing us Tap Tap Revenge and Twinkle, PosiMotion is bringing us Top 3 Solitaire and Pool. Top 3 Solitaire, better known as iSolitaire by Chris Miles, and Pool, the pool application that we all love, will both be available via the App Store. There seems to be some cool changes to both apps however, there is no indication as to the cost of the apps. Below is more info and screenshots.
PosiMotion is also set to release two of their own applications; G-Spot and G-Park. Both look like they are going to be pretty nice applications that might just be on the “Need to Purchase” list. Though, there is no indication of the cost of either of these applications. Below, you will find more info and screenshots of G-Spot and G-Park. [Read more...]

Urbanspoon is a website that provides information and reviews for restaurants. The restaurants are based on location. Well, they have taken this concept and created it into an application for the iPhone.
“We wanted to take advantage of the physicality of the iPhone, so we’re using the accelerometer,” said Urbanspoon co-founder Ethan Lowry. “So we’ve developed an application for the iPhone that’s part slot machine, part Magic 8-Ball.”
So far, the application includes restaurant information for 38 locations in the US and 3 in Canada. The best part is that it will be free. Check out the demo video below.
Watch “Urbanspoon” on your iPhone or iPod Touch.
“According to Michael Wray, president of Mariner Software, the program is 80 to 90 percent complete and will include a number of impressive features, including the ability to view and edit Excel files in their native file format—no conversion needed. The CocoaTouch application will support spreadsheets up to 1,000,000 rows and 32,000 columns in size, as well as multiple sheets per document. It will even include support for charts and objects.
The application is not quite finished yet and there is no indication of how much is it going to cost however, I have a feeling this is going to be an anticipated application especially among the business realm. [Read more...]

During the WWDC last week, Apple gave out awards to the best deigned iPhone Applications. There were five categories; Best iPhone Game, Best iPhone Healthcare & Fitness Application, Best iPhone Social Networking Application, Best iPhone Entertainment Application and Best iPhone Productivity Application. Below are the results and I will have to agree with Apple…all these applications look aweseome!
Best iPhone Game
Enigmo 1.0 – Pangea Software, Inc.
Enigmo for iPhone is a 3D puzzle game where players construct mechanisms to direct lasers, plasma, and water to toggle switches, deactivate force-fields, and eventually get them to their final destination. Originally the most unique game that Pangea Software ever created on Mac OS X, the new iPhone version brings the concept to a whole new dimension by taking full advantage of iPhone’s Multi-Touch interface for dragging and manipulating puzzle pieces, zooming in and out, and operating game controls. With gorgeous 3D scenes rendered with OpenGL ES and amazing 3D audio produced by Open AL, Enigmo 1.0 for iPhone delivers a phenomenally engaging and addictive game play experience to iPhone and iPod touch.
Aki Mahjong Solitaire by Ambrosia, is being previewed next week at WWDC in San Francisco and will be in the AppStore when it launches. Here is what Ambrosia has to say about Aki Mahjong Solitaire and a video demo of the app. You can see screenshots of the app HERE.
Ambrosia’s first game for the iPhone elegantly blends the ancient Chinese game of Mahjong with an enchanting journey across Japan. Designed from the ground up specifically for iPhone, it’s a modern fusion of two ancient Asian cultures, and is as much an experience as it is a game. Aki is easy to learn even if you still haven’t mastered chopsticks, so don’t hesitate to dive right in. We think you’ll soon find yourself captivated.
Our iPhone game philosophy is to provide games you can pick up and play whenever you want, then dismiss quickly to take that phone call you just received. Just hit the Home button at any time, and whenever you relaunch Aki, you’re right back where you left off!
Freeverse, a leading developer of entertainment software, has developed Wingnuts Moto Racer, a racing game for the iPhone. Wingnuts Moto Racer is set for release in the AppStore. An intern at Freeverse has written a pretty good article written about the app…they have all the fun information blotted out and there is only artwork from the cutscreen (no screenshots) but, it is an interesting article none then less. There is one paragraph in the article that has me most excited about the AppStore:
When the iTunes App Store finally opens its virtual doors, forget about the iPhone as “just a phone.” On that red-letter day, whenever it happens to be, the iPhone will be well on its way to become a premiere gaming platform.
