Analock HD – Customizable Lockscreen Mod

Analock HD is a simple, clean lock screen mod. The lock screen displays the current time, date, day of the week, temperature and weather conditions. And, like Sublime Lock HD, what I love most about this lock screen mod is how easy it is to customize… no coding involved!! I have actually been using this lock screen for a while now and I decided it was time to pass it along! Below are the step-by-step instructions on how to install, activate and customize the Analock HD lock screen mod.

LockInfo Update – iOS 4.2.1 Compatibility, Improvements and Bug Fixes

LockInfo, a feature-packed lock screen mod, was updated to version 2.3.8.24. It is a pretty decent update that includes compatibility with iOS 4.2.1, improvements and few bug fixes (full changelog below). I like the improvements to the Mail app. I especially like that, since you are now able to click on links in mail messages on the lock screen, it asks for your password before opening them… good security. Sometime that gets over-looked. I also noticed that the app’s price is $7.99 instead of the previous $4.99. Because I had already purchased the app… I’m not sure if the price change occurred with this update or if it had already gone up. Anyway, LockInfo was updated and will now work with 4.2.1! YAY!… since it is one of my favorite lock screen mods!

Sublime Lock HD – Clean, Easily Customizable Lock Screen

Sublime Lock HD is a nicely designed lock screen mod. The mod displays the current time, date, temperature, weather conditions, twitter feed and has a decent amount of themes to choose from. What I love about this lock screen is that it is SUPER easy to customize… like seriously anyone can do it… there is no coding involved. Below are step-by-step instructions on how to install, activate and customize this lock screen.

Side Note: The instructions might look long but that is only because I explain every little step.

SwitcherPlus – Adds Multitasking Ability on Lock Screen

Available In: Cydia       Price: Free

SwitcherPlus is a mod that adds the ability to use the multitasking dock from your lock screen. Once the app has been installed in Cydia, you are able to use the complete functionality of multitasking from your lock screen.

If you do not have a passcode set for your device, and you select an application from the multitasking dock while on the lock screen, it will automatically take you from the lock screen directly into that application. If you do have a passcode, and you select an application from the multitasking dock while on the lock screen, it will require you to enter your passcode and then will bring you directly into the application you selected.

I did notice that after you select an app from the multitasking dock (while on the lock screen), the passcode keyboard disappears pretty quickly. So, you will want to start typing in your passcode as soon as the keyboard appears or it will disappear and you will have to go back into multitasking and select your app again. Hopefully this will be fixed with an update. NOTE: This can actually be changed in the app’s settings. If you go into the Lock Screen Mode option and then the Dim after dismiss option… you can increase the time before the screen dims and thus the keyboard disappears.

Element Lockscreen Now Available in Cydia!

Available In: Cydia       Price: Free

##ICON_NAME## I don’t know about you guys but it seems like FOREVER since we wrote that the Element lockscreen concept was going to become reality. Well, it looks as though it has finally made it’s way into Cydia. A few days ago, I was perusing (yes, perusing) Cydia and to my astonishment what did I see… Element. At first I thought it was a theme or maybe some random look-a-like but after some further exploration I found it to be the real deal. However, I’m going to warn you right away, don’t get too excited this is definitely a first release.

The lockscreen was released in Cydia as a cydget. For those of you who do not know what Cydget is, it is “framework for managing lock screen plugins.” Which means, like most cydgets, it runs a little slow. Once you install the app (you will also want to install the Cydget ‘app’ if you do not already have it installed), you will then need to go into your stock Settings application under the Cydget option and tap on Element to activate it on your loackscreen. Once you have done that, you can go into your stock Settings and find the Element option where you will see some basic Setting for the Element lockscreen.

Cydgets – Time, Weather, Flashlight… [Updated]

Available In: Cydia       Price: Free

##ICON_NAME## Last week I wrote about Cydget, a “framework for managing lock screen plugins.” Over the week-end there were a few Cydgets (like Widgets for Cydget) released that are pretty decent.

The first is HTC Hero Cydget. This Cydget includes the current Time, Temperature and Weather Conditions. Once you have installed the Cydget, you will need to go into the stock Settings application under Cydget and activate it. I did find that this particular Cydget does not display immediately on the lock screen, there is a slight delay. (strike)Though, it does know your current time and weather info without having to edit a .plist which is nice. (/strike) [Read more…]

Twidget – View Tweets on Lock Screen

Available In: Cydia       Price: Free

Twidget Twidget is a sweet application that allows you to view tweets on your lock screen. When you install Twidget, it will add an icon to your SpringBoard. When you launch the app, you will need to enter your Twitter info. Next, you will need to go into WinterBoard and activate Twidget.

Once you have entered your info and activated Twidget via WinterBoard, you can lock your iPhone or iPod Touch. You should see a menu bar with the options; Friends, Own, Replies, Favorite and Refresh. You will also see a bar indicating that your tweets are loading. The first time it took quite a while for my tweets to load acutally, I ended up deactivating and reactivating it in WinterBoard and then it went. Once your tweets load, you are able to view your most recent 10 tweets by your Friends, your own tweets, your @ replies and your favorites. You can also refresh the tweets using the refresh option. Sometimes it refreshed really quickly, other times it took a while….usually it is pretty quick. [Read more…]

SweetMail Discontinued

Available In: Cydia       Price: Free

SweetMail About a week ago, I did a review of SweetMail…an application that allowed the ability to display unread email on your lock screen. At the time, the app needed a little work. If you were one of the people who kept the app around, you would have noticed that the developer was able to update the app without updating it in Cydia. In doing so, he added a few features that allowed you view the emails on your lock screen and scroll through them. Today, I got the following message on my lockscreen; “Due to cost of servers for SweetMail I can no longer run it as I cannot afford to keep it available. Sorry for this issue. Please uninstall SweetMail from your handset.” [Read more…]

Lock Calendar Update – Display Calendar Events on Lock Screen

Available In: Cydia       Price: Free

Lock Calendar It looks like Lock Calendarversion 1.0 has been released. I’m not sure if it has been a while since I have done a review of Lock Calendar or just a while since they have updated it! Either way…there are some new features in the app. In the settings for Lock Calendar (which is location in your stock Settings applicaiton) you now have the ability to choose a specific calendar to display on your lock screen (which is a great faeture) and the ability to do a lot more customizing of the app. You are able to select the seperator color, the background color and transpaency and the text color, current color, font type and font size for the Date Bar, Title, Location and Time. You can pretty much customize the app to look however you want now! I will say that it is not the most user friendly interface but, after a little time…you will get the hang of it. [Read more…]

Lock Calendar Update – Display Calendar Events on Lock Screen

Available In: Cydia       Price: Free

Lock Calendar Lock Calendar has been update to version 0.2. The update has a few bug fixes however, it also updates the appearance of the app and adds some setting options. Like in the previous version, as soon as you install Lock Calendar, it will automatically start displaying Calendar events on your lock screen (it is NOT activated via WinterBoard).

When you install the app, you will notice that the there are is no longer a gray highlight behind the date and that the spacing has been changed so that events are closer together. There are a few other minor aesthetic changes such as a comma after the day in the date. Overall, a nice visual update though, I actually didn’t mind the highlight behind the date in the previous version. Another nice feature of the update are some setting options. [Read more…]
