Today is the day (actually in just over an hour)! Apple is planning to make an announcement about the 4.0 firmware from it’s campus in Cupertino. The event will take place at 10:00am PT. Apple says we will be getting a, “sneak peek of the next generation of iPhone OS software.” We will have to see what this brings! :) And, like usual, we will be live blogging the event… stay tuned!

So far I’m not finding a live audio or video stream. It seems that Apple is filtering out people with cameras. Here’s what Gizmodo just said:
We’re inside. People are being seated. Anyone with a camera is being separated out for some reason. Seriously?
So we’ll just be checking all our sources for info. Steve is on the stage. When there is real factual info about the iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad, we will be posting it here. An amazing stat being shared is Apple sold over 300,000 iPads on the first day and 450,000 as of today. As usual, Steve Jobs is talking up stats, showing off some iPad apps, and showing they are a head of competition.
iPhone OS will ship in “Summer” of 2010 and a developer preview will be released today. There will be over 1500 new APIs, access to calendar, photo library, quicklook; new framework called accelerate for hardware accelerated math functions.

This iPhone Commercial – Shopper – shows the use of a few stock applications; Safari, MMS (picture messaging) and Maps. However, it also features one of my favorite applications… RedLaser (try it once and you will be hooked!).
“I know an espresso maker isn’t the most romantic gift but my wife really wanted one. So I did a little research. Asked her sister which color she’d like, and then I did a quick check to see if it was cheaper anywhere else. Turned out the best price was around the corner. I’m a much smarter and faster shopper with my iPhone”
This commercial features two applications Shazam and Local Concerts. Both are free apps in the App Store. Personally, I LOVE Shazam!
“I was out the other night and this great song came on. So I used my iPhone to figure out who the band was. Downloaded their album, right there. And the best part was, my iPhone even told me when they were coming to town. So, all I had to do was buy the tickets. I still don’t know how my iPhone does all that.”

Apple will be holding an event this Thursday, April 8th at 10:00am PT to show off the new 4.0 Firmware. One of the biggest features rumored to be announced is the ability to run applications in the background simultaneously. Additionally rumored is that hitting the home button twice will bring up an Exposé like view of the apps currently running. Instead of showing screenshots of current apps, it would show the icon of the apps. This would be one of the main features that competitor devices like Androids and the Palm Pre have. Of course, if you’re jailbroken, you can already do this with Backgrounder.
Ok, so I’m jealous, but that’ s ok. Later I will not stand in line for my iPad 3G. We will be going out to our Apple store today to check out the new device. Our mall opened at 7am and the Apple store is opening at 9am. Here are some videos of lines and stores opening across the US.

Apparently there have been recent interviews in which Phil Schiller, head of worldwide product marketing at Apple, has commented on the removal of apps that contain sexual content. Below are a few snippets of what he had to say. [Read more...]
This is strange, very strange. Apple has removed all apps that contain, well, almost anything sexual. They seem to have changed their rules, once again, on what is allowed in the App Store. Developers are reporting info with the following standards:
1. No images of women in bikinis
2. No images of men in bikinis!
3. No skin
4. No silhouettes that indicate that Wobble can be used for wobbling boobs
5. No sexual connotations or innuendo: boobs, babes, booty, sex – all banned
6. Nothing that can be sexually arousing!!
7. No apps will be approved that in any way imply sexual content
Ok, so first of all, I can tell you that so far it seems to be true. Last week I just taught a class teaching parents how to use the parental control features of the iPhone and iPod touch to protect their kids against apps in the App Store. I was showing them that even in the top 25 free apps, adult apps would show up even without searching for terms. These apps are no longer there and they were there for quite a while. What’s also strange is that apps like the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition and the Playboy apps are still in the store.
Apple originally banned these types of apps and then later allowed them. Now they are banning them again. Maybe they started to ban them at the beginning of the App Store days and then started getting sued and decided to allow them. Now, after getting legal things straightened out, they started banning again? Who knows…
Note: I’ve noticed that apps that have textual descriptions about sex positions are still in the store… Maybe it’s just a visual thing.
Apple has release a new firmware for the iPhone, version 3.1.3. This isn’t the new firmware we’ve all been waiting for. That’s either 3.2 or 4.0. This update just brings some bug fixes. As always, if you update from a jailbroken or unlocked iPhone, you will lose all jailbreak apps, themes, unlock, etc. The iPhone Dev Team already has a warning out and why not to update. Here is the list of changes in firmware 3.1.3:
- Improves accuracy of reported battery level on iPhone 3GS
- Resolves issues where third-party apps would not launch in some instances
- Fixes but that may cause an app to crash when using the Japanese Kana keybaord
Apple has finally opened what appears to be an official YouTube Channel. This means we can now embed any video that Apple release there, here on AIS. Here is the iPad video from Apple’s website and that was played at the end of the Keynote and the entire Keynote split into 4 videos:

I noticed that when Steve Jobs was doing his demo of the new iPad, he quickly skipped over areas of webpages that had flash on them. There was, just like the iPhone, a little blue cube where the flash belongs. This has disappointed everyone that the new device won’t support flash. Most likely, Apple doesn’t allows flash on it’s iPhone, iPod touch and new iPad because it doesn’t want users bypassing the paid for App Store for free flash game sites.
Anyway, Apple was displaying their iPad on their website with the flash working. Not sure how they missed this one but they have now updated the images. This would mean they do not intend to have flash working on the device any time soon.

The new iPad from Apple was released yesterday. It will come is a few different configurations. You can get it with 16GB, 32GB or 64GB of storage. You can also get it with or without the 3G connection for an extra $130. The non 3G version will be available within 60 days and for added 3G it will be 90 days. Below is the pricing structure:
$499 – 16GB wifi
$629 – 16GB wifi + 3G
$599 – 32GB wifi
$729 – 32GB wifi + 3G
$699 – 64GB wifi
$829 – 64GB wifi + 3G
The 3G service will be available in the US through AT&T for $14.99 for 250MB per month or $29.99 for unlimited per month. There is no contract and no cancellation fee. The iPad will be unlocked so you can use it with any carrier that supports micro SIM cards. It’s also a data only connection. There are possibilities of VOIP calls but no phone app comes with it.
With today’s announcement of the new iPad, we’re wondering how many will buy the new iPad from Apple? Let us know in the comments why or why not and what model you’re planning on getting. I am planning on getting one. Depending on exactly how the 3G data service works, I will get the 64GB with 3G but not activate it for now. Gonna have to save up first…
Will you buy the new iPad (tablet) from Apple?
