Apple’s New Icon Layout

iPhone 3GS Icon Layout I don’t know if you guys have noticed or not but, Apple seems to have rearranged the icons on the iPhone.

The 3.0 firmware adds a Voice Memos application.

Instead of adding the Voice Memos app at the end, they add it to the third row of apps and then rearrange the entire third row of apps. Previously it went Clock, Calculator, Notes and Settings now, they have it as Voice Memos, Notes, Clock, Calculator. Why in the world would they do that?? Why not just add the Voice Memos application to the end and leave the rest of the apps alone? Especially since they add the new Compass application to the end of the apps on the iPhone 3GS….they didn’t add it amongst the already exciting apps. Totally weird.

Personally, I’m totally going to have to rearrange them so that they are “normal.” I’m waaaay to used to it the way it is now…I would go to use the Calculator and open Notes instead. [Read more…]

iPhone 3G S – Video Editing

Camera I know that there are a few cool features on the iPhone 3G S however, one that I am really interested in is the Video Recording and Video Editing. I have two children, my oldest is two and half and my youngest is 3 months old and even though we have quite a few cameras laying around our house (due to Doug’s obsession with photography), I still end up using my iPhone’s camera the most. So, I’m guessing I will end up using the video recording feature quite often as well.

The iPhone 3G S records in 30-fps VGA (640×480) which allows Apple to say that it is, “perfect for posting on the web” which is true. Video can be captured in both landscape and portrait mode. When you start recording you will hear the same “shutter” sound you get when you take a photo (unless your iPhone is on silent mode). While you are recording, the record button will blink to indicate that you are recording. You will also get a nice little thumbnail of the previous video (or photo) you took. It seems like you will be able to use the “tap to focus” method with the video recording as well.

Apple Patent: Embedded Authentication System

AppleA lot of blogs have been talking about a recent patent application by Apple for an “Embedded Authentication System.” The concept is pretty sweet but we’ve got to get something out of the way first. It seems that there is an image used in the application that is, well… just take a look for yourself:

You jailbreakers should notice a lot of stuff here. The major things are Installer, SMBPrefs, & other icons from Installer. Why would Apple use this in a future patent? Well first you have to understand what Apple is doing with this “Embedded Authentication System.” [Read more…]

New Poll – What are your top five favorite features of the new 3.0 firmware?

AiS" Well, since yesterday’s poll is a little outdated already…here is a new one!

Apple actually did surprising well yesterday with the updates in firmware 3.0…there were quite a few new features added (check out THIS post to see them all). Some of my favorites include; copy & paste, push notification, spotlight search, the new options for accessories and peer-to-peer connectivity. However, I know a few of you are still waiting for those certain features (video recording…etc). Let us know in the comments what features you are still waiting for.

What are your top five favorite features of the new 3.0 firmware? (You can pick five)
