Purchase an iPhone 3G S Without a Contract

It seems the people over at iTalkiPhone have found a way to purchase an iPhone 3G S straight from the Apple Store…contract free. You obviously do not get the subsidized price of $199 and $299 however, if you are looking for a way to get the iPhone 3G S contract free, this might be a way to do it. It does taking a little bit of a work-around on Apple’s website. Here is what you would need to do:
You need Firefox + Firebug (www.getfirebug.com)
1. Go to any non-apple product in the store.apple.com (e.x: http://store.apple.com/us/product/TV…mco=NjM0MTMwMw)
2. Click on the little FireBug icon on the bottom of the screen, now Firebug pops up and Click “Inspect”, and choose the “Add to cart Icon”
3. In firebug, right above where it’s highlighted, you should see “”. Click on “TV943VC/A” and change it to the value of the iPhone you want:

iPhone 3GS 16GB Black ($599): MB715LL/A
iPhone 3GS 16GB White ($599): MB716LL/A
iPhone 3GS 32GB Black ($699): MB717LL/A
iPhone 3GS 32GB White ($699): MB718LL/A4. Now click on the Add to Cart button, and the iPhone should be in your cart. Proceed to buy it if you want.
I personally have not tried this, I have an AT&T contract I am going to upgrade through, so I have no idea if it actually works or not. You might end up with an iPhone that is locked and can only be activated through a carrier or you might not receive it at all or an iPhone 3G S will show up on your doorstep ready to go with no contract….who knows! Like the last poll, I also did this poll before we knew all the details about the iPhone 3G S. Now that we have all the info (and the details from AT&T) I’m interested to see if the numbers have changed any. iPhone 3G S – Video Editing

I know that there are a few cool features on the iPhone 3G S however, one that I am really interested in is the Video Recording and Video Editing. I have two children, my oldest is two and half and my youngest is 3 months old and even though we have quite a few cameras laying around our house (due to Doug’s obsession with photography), I still end up using my iPhone’s camera the most. So, I’m guessing I will end up using the video recording feature quite often as well.
The iPhone 3G S records in 30-fps VGA (640×480) which allows Apple to say that it is, “perfect for posting on the web” which is true. Video can be captured in both landscape and portrait mode. When you start recording you will hear the same “shutter” sound you get when you take a photo (unless your iPhone is on silent mode). While you are recording, the record button will blink to indicate that you are recording. You will also get a nice little thumbnail of the previous video (or photo) you took. It seems like you will be able to use the “tap to focus” method with the video recording as well.

JustMobile Xtand

JustMobile has just released a stand for both the 1st Gen iPhone and the iPhone 3G. It’s made out of aluminum and has rubber feet so it won’t slide around. Being made out aluminum makes it a little light for my liking although it’s not really sliding around too much on me like I thought it would. It comes with rubber mounts for all four corners of the iPhone and are interchangeable for both 1st Gen and iPhone 3G. There is a hole in the back of the stand for your USB cord but only the USB to computer part fits through it. The end that connects to the iPhone doesn’t fit so if you’re cord is plugged into the computer you have to unplug it to get the stand detached. It also rotates for horizontal viewing and you can adjust the height slightly. The stand costs about $40 and is distributed in the US by nuCourse Distribution. Visit the Xtand website at xtand.net.
