6 iPhone 3.0 Icons – WinterBoard Theme

Available In: Cydia       Price: Free

6 iPhone 3.0 Icons 6 iPhone 3.0 Icons is a theme that includes the Stocks, iPod, Phone, Voice Memos, SMS and MMS icons from the 3.0 firmware. When you install 6 iPhone 3.0 Icons (via the iSpazio source), it will add the theme into WinterBoard where it can then be activated/deactivated. When activated, the Phone, Stocks, iPod and SMS icons will change to the 3.0 icons however, you will not see the Voice Memos or MMS icons due to the fact that there are no apps with these titles on your SpringBoard (or at least not on my SpringBoard). But, the icons are in the theme’s folder so if you want them you can go to Library/Themes/iPhone 3.0 Icons/Icons folder on your iPhone or iPod Touch. I also added them to this post (see screenshots below) The theme only contains these six icons. I will say that I’m a little confused by the MMS icon…I’m not sure if it is based on the country you are in or what but, Doug does not have that icon on his 3.0 upgrade.

3.0 Beta Icons – Look like you have 3.0 Firmware!

Available In: Cydia       Price: Free

3.0 Beta Icons30betaiconstheme2 3.0 Beta Icons is a mod that will change your SMS, Phone and iPod icons to look like the icons that come with the 3.0 firmware. When I installed this app, it did not show up in WinterBoard and my icons did not change to the 3.0 icons so, I did what I always do…restarted my iPhone. However, that didn’t work so I uninstalled and reinstalled that app…that still didn’t work so I did some digging. When I SSH’d into my iPhone I found that the files had been added into the main root directory in a folder titled 3.0. So, I just copies the three icon files and added them into WinterBoard as a theme (instructions below) and then activated the theme in WinterBoard…it worked. Hopefully we see an update to the app that puts the folder in the correct place…which I’m assuming would be WinterBoard. This mod is available via the PwnCenter source.

Note: The Stocks icon is also different in the 3.0 Firmware but, that icon is not included in this theme.

Testing Firmware 3.0

AppleI just started testing firmware 3.0 tonight and I thought I’d share what I’ve noticed so far. I upgraded straight from a jailbroken 2.2 firmware. First, a few things stuck around like my carrier logo. I used MakeItMine to change it from AT&T to ahhyeah and it stuck. Another weird thing is the battery percentage shows up near my battery level. I used to have a hack that made it switch to numbers when tapped on, but now it is next to it and it has a % sign that wasn’t there before. Another huge thing for me was the Emoji keyboard. I was sad I was going to have to go without it, but it stayed too.

Engadget’s Video Demo of Firmware 3.0

Original Article: Engadget.com

3.0 Firmware is Jailbreakable (according to Dev Team)

Dev Team The Dev Team updated their blog recently to give us some information about unlocking and jailbreaking the 3.0 firmware. Below is what they have to say.

“With all of the great stuff lined up for us with the 3.0 OS that Apple described today, many 3G owners may find themselves with itchy update fingers. If you find yourself with access to the 3G IPSW for 3.0 via the iPhone Dev Center program, and you are using yellowsn0w, do not update or restore to that official IPSW. You will lose yellowsn0w and find yourself unable to revert the baseband to get it back.

And for those wondering, yes the 3.0 OS is jailbreakable on all devices. It’s just those using 3G yellowsn0w that have to show some restraint and wait for PwnageTool to create a custom IPSW that avoids the baseband update.”

* Yes, I upgraded my iPhone but I didn’t jailbreak it. (15%, 436 Votes)

* Yes, I upgraded my iPod Touch but I didn’t jailbreak it. (3%, 75 Votes)

* No, I did not upgrade my iPod Touch (2%, 64 Votes)
* I plan to upgrade but, I just haven’t yet! (14%, 400 Votes)

Total Voters: 2,958

I actually fall into a few categories on this one. We have one iPhone that we did not upgrade, one that we upgraded and did not jailbreak, one that we upgraded and did jailbreak and one that we still plan to update but haven’t yet. My personal iPhone has not been upgraded yet though, I plan to both upgrade and jailbreak it (if I could find ten minutes to do it!!). Doug’s personal iPhone has been both upgraded and jailbroke. You can still vote on this Poll in our Poll Archive page. You can also vote/view all the past polls on the Poll Archive page as well.

Note: Thanks to Adam for the poll suggestion!
