5 Icon Dock is Back!

Available In: Cydia       Price: Free

I’ve missed this when I upgraded to 2.0. It’s pretty simple really, just install “Five Icon Dock” From Cydia. Then all you have to do is drag an additional icon to your dock. Here’s what it looks like:

WinPwn 2.5

WinPwn 2.5 is finally here! This is a very nice jailbreak application. I just upgraded to iPhone firmware 2.0.2 and jailbroke my iPhone 3G using the QuickPwn part of WinPwn 2.5. You can jailbreak the iPod Touch and both the 1st Gen iPhone and the iPhone 3G all on firmwares 2.0, 2.0.1 and 2.0.2. You can also unlock the 1st Gen iPhone but not the iPhone 3G.

Again, I used the QuickPwn part of WinPwn because I can’t unlock my iPhone 3G and didn’t want to restore. To switch WinPwn 2.5 into QuickPwn Mode just click the Custom icon at the top and it will switch to QuickPwn mode. The steps are really easy and the big difference with this version is WinPwn is it’s design and usability. If you’ve been afraid to jailbreak your iPhone or iPod Touch because it looks too hard, it’s now become even easier. [Read more…]

woot! 1.0

Available In: App Store       Price: $0.99

wootBefore I write anything I must warn you that this app is not developed by Woot.com. Next, if you don’t know what woot is, check them out. They sell one per day at bargain prices until it’s sold out. This app brings the the items main information up without visiting the site. You can see a picture, title, prices, shipping price and condition. It will also tell you if the item is sold out. There are three buttons at the bottom: I Want One!, View Description In Reader and View Web Site. They all open web address from a built in browser.

You can also change the settings to show shirt.woot.com and wine.woot.com products. Then on the main screen you can swipe left and right to view the three site products. They are all laid out the same way. Also, in case of a Woot-Off (where they change the product once it’s sold out) you can set it to auto refresh and choose alerts of vibrate and play sound. Cydia Video Review

CydiaCydia is an application that allows you to install programs that Apple does not allow in the App Store. To install Cydia you must jailbreak your iPhone. See our Jailbreak Page for more info. Once you have Cydia you can install all kinds of apps, most of them for free. Check out this video to see how Cydia works and see some examples of what kinds of apps are available.

iPhone Passcode Not as Secure as Once Thought!

Settings I found out read today that there is a work around for the iPhone’s Passcode, making the iPhone not as secure as I once thought it was! It seems that when your iPhone is locked and you are prompted to enter your Passcode, you can select Emergency Call and then double tap your Home Button and it will launch your double tap settings. Meaning, if you have your Favorites set as your Home Button double tap (your iPhone’s Home Button double tap is set automatically to your Favorites so, if you have never changed it in your Settings, that it what it is set as), people are able to get into your Favorites even if your iPhone is locked.

At first this may not seems like an issue. So, they might call a few of the people on your Favorites list. Well, it also means that if you have an address, email address, Safari link, etc in any of the info for your contacts they can get into all of that as well. If you have an email address set for one of your favorites, [Read more…]

iHologram is Fake

There’s been a video going around about a hologram app called iHologram. It was said to work on the concept of Anamorphosis. I assumed the video was fake for two reasons. One, The accelerometer doesn’t work like that. When sitting on a flat surface it doesn’t know it’s being turned like that. Second, there was only one video from one angle so I assumed it was a video editing trick.

The author of the video originally said, “Ive just finished coding an application for the iphone/ipod touch. It gives the illusion of a 3d hologram jumping off the screen. The application works by assuming a constant viewing angle (35-45 degrees), typical for when the device is placed on a tabletop. The 3d scene’s perspective is warped using anamorphosis, the same technique used in Hans Holbein’s painting The Ambassadors. This application does the exact same but updates dynamically.” [Read more…]

Leaf Theme for WinterBoard

Available In: Cydia       Price: Free

WinterBoardThe very popular leaf theme has been ported to WinterBoard, now with an illumintated background. This is a very well done theme. I have a few things I would like to see changed. I don’t like it when words are broke up. So I would change the Weather icon to be all one word. The author shows in the Text & Settings icon that this many letters can be squeezed in. Also, the new Installer doesn’t have an icon. Knowing the history of this theme, the author is quick to add icons, so I’m sure this will be updated soon. There are a few icons I’m seeing that are compatible already such as Winterboard, Palringo, Enigmo, World Racing GTS, Aqua Forest & MxTube. This is great! Of course there are over a thousand apps in the App Store now so it may take a while to get them all :)

One last thing that I don’t like is that the Leaf theme automatically makes the icon labels transparent. This is kewl for the icons that have labels but for all the others I have that aren’t in the Leaf theme, I have to go by the icon alone. Since WinterBoard already has the option of transparent icon labels, I think this feature should be left to be changed through WinterBoard. [Read more…]

Koi Pond 2.0

Available In: App Store       Price: $0.99

Koi PondI used to have a pond at my old business and I loved it. Customers always loved feeding the Koi and letting them bite their fingers. I would work on it a lot, changing the plants and waterfalls and collecting different Koi. This application has lots of these features, on an iPhone of course.

The graphics are done well and there a lots of features and choices. First, you can touch the water and it will ripple in response. The fish will also swim away. You can shake the iPhone and it will feed the Koi. Then they will come out and eat up the food. There are also sound effects, done nicely. You can turn them off or layer different sounds like water, birds, frogs and bugs. These can be changed by tapping in the bottom right corner. There are also other settings there like amount of fish and lily pads, and the color of the water and you can even switch it to night mode. [Read more…]

CyCorder 0.9-2

Available In: Cydia       Price: Free

CycorderA reader recently sent us an email about a new app called Cycorder. Here’s what it had to say:

hey Doug and Brooke, I got this really cool app called cycorder and its pretty neat! I can use the iPhones camera to record video (only 16 frames per second, but you get used to it) only problem is that it doesn’t have sound. I was hoping you could check it out and see if you get sound. Or if you like the app with or without sound, could you do a review on it?

P.S. I am on an iphone 3G with firmware 2.0.2. [Read more…]
