Tenuis Matte – SBSettings Theme

Today, while we were in the Apple store, I happened to look over at Doug’s iPhone while he was using SBSettings and to my astonishment saw a beautiful SBSettings theme. Tenuis Matte is a clean SBSettings theme that just happens to go nicely with my favorite WinterBoard theme… Smoog. I think I may actual prefer it to the Smoog SBSettings theme. Anyway, what I then realized is that Tenuis Matte is actually a theme that comes with SBSettings (who knew!)… here I am installing themes when the best one comes with the app! So, if you are looking for a nice SBSettings theme, you may want to check out Tenuis Matte… if you haven’t already! Screenshots below. [Read more…]

guyPhone 4 – Working iPhone 4 Costume Made From 40″ LED Screen

##ICON_NAME##Ok, if I was at a costume party tonight, this is totally what I would wear. Of course I wasn’t at a costume party. I was recording episode 24 of our video podcast, i101! Anyway, this thing is totally awesome. An iPhone is hacked to use it’s display out to a 40″ flat screen (that is not actually touch) running on a 2 hour battery that you can wear! There’s a sweet little video, lots of pics and the full details below. Oh, and the flash on the back lights up, I’m so jealous.

Press Release

TAMPA, FLA., John Savio (Center), Abigail Gardner (Featured as Apple Employee) This year they’re back at it again. John Savio and Reko Rivera went their separate ways. John created the upgraded rendition of the iPhone 4 featured here at 10x to scale, complete with a 40″ LED LCD Panel, a Jailbroken iPhone 4, VGA out from the iPohone, LED Back Camera Light, weighs roughly 75 lbs and uses a mini 12v Battery with 2+ hours of battery life. The costume took a total of 3 days / 40 hours to complete.

BACKSTORY — This all started three years ago Reko Rivera and Bobby Hartman created a wearable large iPhone costume with a real 37″ lcd tv. An iPod was attached with a looping video of a real iphones screen in normal use. Last year with the help of John Savio and John Matthews the team created yet another amazing rendition of the new iPhone 3GS. Savio loved the original idea but wanted to take it to the next level and make it thinner and actually work with user input! With some heavy researching and some solid determination Savio finally found a solution. He managed to modify the software on the iPhone to allow a live dual image output to the large 42″ lcd tv while maintaining the image in landscape mode. Reko originally came up with the idea and really pushed to see his vision come to life two years ago. This year John Savio and Reko Rivera embarked on different projects. John stuck with his love of apple products and Reko ventured off to explore his love of DJ’ing with a mobile DJ setup.

‘iPhone Apps’ Category Added to Google Mobile Search

Google It seems that Google has added a new “iPhone Apps” category to their mobile search. When searching for something in Google, using Safari on your device, you are now able to select an iPhone Apps option in the More drop down menu. When you select the iPhone Apps option, it displays a list of iPhone apps relevant to your Google search. The icon, price, star rating, number of reviews, and short description are displayed for each app result. If you select one of the apps, it brings you directly to that application in the App Store on your device. Pretty cool. Check out the screenshots below.

Today is the day… Verizon and AT&T Get iPads

A couple weeks ago, Apple announced that the iPad would be available in both Verizon and AT&T stores on October 28th. Today is the day! And, confirmed by a friend, the devices are indeed available today. Both AT&T and Verizon are offering the 16GB, 32GB and 64Gb iPad Wi-Fi with 3G (AT&T) or MiFi (Verizon). The plans are honestly pretty similarly priced with AT&T offering a $14.99 a month plan for up to 250MB of data and a $25 a month for up to 2GB of data. Verizon is offering a $20 a month plan for up to 1GB of data. Below are what, according to Apple, each company is offering.

App Switcher Volume

When Apple came out with iOS 4, one of the big features was multitasking. Part of multitasking is double pressing the home button to get to an app switching dock. It’s kind of like command+tab on the mac to switch between apps. Well when you pull up this app switching dock, you can swipe to the left to get a nice little menu that has features like locking the rotation of the screen, quick access to music controls and the icon to the most recent app that’s playing audio in the background like the iPod or Pandora. Moxier Collage – Free This Week (down from $7.99)

Moxier Collage is a pretty cool collage app for the iPad that is on sale for free this week… down from $7.99. I’m not sure I would have paid $7.99 for it but for free… it’s worth a shot. Moxier Collage is only available for the iPad. Check out the app description and screenshots below. [Read more…]

PBS Releases iPad App

PBS released their new iPad app allowing you to watch many of their programing right on the iPad. I tested it out last night and got distracted watching an episode on the wildlife of Cuba. There are both full length episodes and shorter videos. The one I watched was about an hour long. The video was great quality and buffered very well. According to their App Store description at the time of writing this article, they upgraded server capacity just a day after releasing the app. If you installed this app the day it was released and were having troubles, give it another try. FaceMan Update

I talked about this app in episode 20 of i101 but the recent update was significant enough to write about it again. If you don’t remember, this app does what Photo Booth for the Mac does. It uses the front facing camera and adds silly effects. The update now allows you to use the rear camera too. It also added 4 new effects including AsciiArt (drawing the image with just letters, numbers and other ASCII characters), ModernArt, 100Me and NightVision. Check out the screenshots below for examples. There are a lot more features that were added so here’s the complete list: [Read more…]

iOS Coming To The Mac

Mac App StoreLast week Apple announced that the operating system from the iPhone, iPod touch and the iPad will be coming to the Mac in the Summer of 2011. There are some very interesting ways they are going to do this. They include an App Store, Launchpad, Folders, Full-screen apps, and Mission Control. I’ll explain each of these better below and I’ve also included the full video of the announcement which includes updates to the MacBook Air and iLife. [Read more…]

FullScreen for Safari

Available In: Cydia Price: $1.49

SafariThis super sweet hack is just as the title sounds, a full screen feature for the stock Safari app. This means no address bar and no toolbar at the bottom. Don’t worry, it’s not an all or nothing option. You can use a variety of gestures to initiate full screen mode. There are also other gestures for things like back and scrolling up. This only works on iOS 4 but it works really well. It ran very smooth for us and it’s definitely a keeper! Can’t wait for it to work with the iPad (as of now it’s not compatible)

Theme: Wind0ws

There are a few kewl features that could be used from this theme but it’s not set up completely to work with my iPhone 4 or the new OS. First, the icons are not made for the retina display. There are also a few icons that are either spelled in a different language or missing so they won’t show up correctly until I go in and rename them using iFile or just not show up at all. There are a lot of icons in this set, over 250! It also comes with some windows sounds effects, the blue spinning circle and other UI images like buttons & search boxes. [Read more…]

Verizon to Sell iPad & MiFi Bundle October 28th

Verizon recently announced they will soon begin selling the iPad starting October 28th. First off, do not be confused, the model they will be selling will be wifi only and will come with their mobile hotspot they call MiFi. If you don’t know what that is, it’s a wireless, battery powered wifi router, about the size of a credit card, that gets it’s internet from the cell phone towers.

More Rumors of the iPhone Coming to Verizon

verizonThe Wall Street Journal claims to be in contact with someone at Apple that has stated there will be CDMA iPhone and will come to Verizon by the first quarter of 2011. The device will not yet run on LTE technology as many have thought. Also discussed was that the design of the CDMA iPhone will continue to use the iPhone 4 design and the new iPhone 5 will have some changes. The expected growth of sales could be an additional 10 million iPhones a year.

It will be very interesting to see if Verizon’s network can handle the iPhone or if it will have the same problems AT&T has had. It may be OK since Verizon has had other smart phones like all the Android phones. But, AT&T started slowly with a non 3G iPhone, then the iPhone 3G, then the iPhone 4 that sends bigger pictures and video, runs apps in the background and has more apps then before where Verizon will be jumping right in with one of the more bandwidth intensive devices ever!
