OLO Computer – iPhone Docks as Trackpad Mouse

Tomorrow Apple is set to announce a new product. Most believe it will be updates for the MacBook and MacBook Pro and may include a trimmed down MacBook or NetBook that is around $800. This would be a light weight laptop built for mostly web or light weight apps. As great as all this sounds there may be something else, not coming from Apple, that integrates with your iPhone. It’s called the OLO computer. The feature that sets it apart from anything Apple has is the iPhone dock positioned right where the trackpad goes. I’ve thought about this and there are pros and cons to the whole idea. Now all we have is a picture and no specs so everything will be pure speculation.

Pros include the OS of the laptop which is OS X. Not sure how Apple is going to like that but I do. Other obvious features would be the iPhone charges while in the dock, you’ll have access to all your music, contacts, etc. and the iPhone would be your mouse so you would most likely have multitouch options. TimeCapsule now Chronus

Available In: Cydia       Price: Free or $7.99

timecapsule Many of you probably remember TimeCapsule, an application that allows you to back up your iPhone, from firmware 1.1.4 and below. Well, it is now available for firmware 2.0+ however it has a new name. It is now called Chronus. The icon is the same and the application itself looks and functions much the same as before. You are able to back-up Stock, Cydia and App Store applications (Documents folder). The application list is a little limited at the moment and the ability to backup your Contacts is missing. But, the developer is working on both of these things and we should see some good updates in the future. The app reminds me a lot of the first releases of TimeCapsule but I know we will see more features soon.

Trama – winterBoard Theme

Available In: Cydia       Price: Free

WinterBoard Trama is an interesting theme that came out in Cydia last night. There is not a ton of info about the theme but, it does seem to change your WiFi signal icon and battery icon on your Status Bar, the battery charging image on your lock screen when you iPhone or iPod Touch is plugged in and the sliders. Check out the screenshots below.

iDontCrash – Fraudulent App

BigBoss BigBoss has put out a warning on his website about a fraudulent application called iDontCrash. It seems that a developer tried to get BigBoss to host his application but due to curiosity BigBoss decided to take a good look at the app before hosting it. Below is what he found…this is just a snippet of the article. You can view the full article HERE. .

A week ago, a developer tried to send me an app called iDontCrash to host. Being curious, and a developer myself, I asked a few questions about this app before hosting it. The answers proved to me that it is total fraud on the community. It should be called iDontWork or iAmFake. This app gave me hours of enjoyment while we were picking it apart. In short, do not trust this app or its developer Brandon Rose. It is upsetting when someone tries to harm our community, therefore, I decided to post all about this app and its pseudo developer.

What is iDontCrash? It is nothing. A fake app not even built for iPhone that does nothing but give you, the hopeful user, false hopes.

WinterBoard 0.9.2598-1

Available In: Cydia       Price: Free

WinterBoard There was an update to version 0.9.2698-1 of WinterBoard today. The changes are listed below. There are a few cool new changes but, I just want to quickly mention two of them. The one that I think most people will appreciate is that new themes are now added to the top of your list in WinterBoard, instead of the bottom of the list. Also, I noticed that the the icon label option has been changed to two options; No Undocked Icon Lables and No Docked Icon Labels. This allows to turn off your SpringBoard icon labels and your Dock icon labels separately…which just allows for more customization flexibility.

Personally I love WinterBoard but, I’m still waiting for that nice user interface. Maybe I’m the only one who still cares about that but, [Read more…]

Survey of High School Students and the iPhone

I found this to be an interesting article by CNNMoney.com. It seems there was a recent poll of High School students and the iPhone (along with other Apple products). The survey was taken “over the last few weeks — while the global financial markets were melting down.” Below are the results. But, you will want to check out the full article HERE.

    • 8% own iPhones, up from from 6% in Spring 2008.
    • 22% of students surveyed expect to buy an iPhone in the next 6 months, up from 9% in Spring 2008.
    • Of students expecting to buy a mobile phone, 33% specified an iPhone.
    • iPod market share rose to 84% from 82% in Fall 2007.
    • Of the 40% of students who legally purchase music online, 93% said they use iTunes (up from 79% in Fall 2007).

Favorite iPhone Feature – GPS

AiS Ok, last night I was driving to a dinner party (that happened to be women only…meaning Doug was not driving me there) and I realized that I have a favorite feature on my iPhone. Granted there are many features that I love about my iPhone but, last night I realized I have a favorite…GPS. The fact that you can search for a restaurant and then get directions to that restaurant based on your current location is awesome in itself but, then to watch as your little blue dot moves along the route is just AMAZING!! Before GPS on my iPhone…I used to have to wonder if I had accidentally merged onto a new street and was no longer going the correct direction. Not any more…now I can just sit back, relax and watch my blue dot! In my area the GPS is wonderfully accurate and updates very quickly!

So, back to my story, last night on my way to this dinner party, I had two sets of directions; paper and my iPhone. I decided to give the paper directions a shot. Well, needless to say, I got lost (which, if you ask Doug, doesn’t take much). When I was on the brink of panic… [Read more…]

Wifi Blobs

Available In: Cydia       Price: Free

winterboard Haha…I saw this in Cydia and just had to check it out! WiFi Blobs is a mod that changes your WiFi signal strength bars to these little “blobs.” The “blobs” are made up of three colors; green, yellow and red. If you have full WiFi signal, you get all three colors. If you have a decent WiFi signal, you will get the yellow and red blobs and if you have a low WiFi signal you will get only the red blob. I honestly think they are kind of cute. They don’t really fit with my theme but, if you have a theme they will work with…you might want to check them out!

Dames 1.1

Available In: Cydia       Price: Free

Dames Well, it seems that Dames has made it’s way back into Cydia! And this time it works great! Dames is a Checkers application that allows you to play against your iPhone or against another player. When the app opens, you get a nice splashscreen and then the main menu. On the main menu, you have four options; Quick Start, Match, Double and Rules. The Rules option will give you info on how to play Checkers (Dames) and the rules of the game. The Quick Start option allows you to quickly start a game…which will be against the iPhone.

The Match option allows you to play against the iPhone however, you are given the ability to choose between three difficulty levels, (easy, medium and hard), four board options (Wood, Marble, Grass and Street) and whether you would like to have the white or black checkers. The Double option allows you to play against [Read more…]

Beaches – WinterBoard Theme

Available In: Cydia       Price: Free

WinterBoard Beaches is a WinterBoard theme that switches between 24 wallpapers throughout the day (changing once an hour). I know, you are thinking…”This has already been done.” True, there is another theme very similar to this called Around The World in 24 (which I really like). However, this theme only includes beach wallpapers. Honestly, this is perfect for me. My preferred iPhone theme…when I’m not testing other themes…is clear icons with a beach wallpaper which I used to change about once a day or every few days. Well, now I do not have to change them on my own any more!

Note: Another thing I like about these type of themes is how easily they can be customized. If you are familiar with SSH, you can easily SSH into your iPhone or iPod Touch and replace the images in the theme with your own images. That way it will rotate through wallpapers that match your theme or wallpapers that you just like better. The images for this theme are located in the folder:

Grocery iQ

Available In: App Store       Price: $4.99

Grocery iQ Lately I have been trying to get into the habit of using my iPhone to create my shopping lists (I’m totally a paper and pencil shopping list kind of girl). If you are anything like me, then you have tried using a few different application for making your shopping list. Yet, I tend to find each one lacking is some way. Well, not any more! I have been testing Grocery iQ for a while now and must say that I am becoming a huge fan. It has basically all the features I could want in a shopping list application and even a few I hadn’t thought of!

When you first open Grocery iQ, you will be on the main List page. The first thing you will get is a nice hint menu instructing you on how to use the List feature. You can choose to hide the hint (which will hide it until you close and reopen the application) or you can choose to not show the hint again. Adding an item to the list is easy, just select the + icon in the upper right corner and search for the item you are looking for. The database is extensive and detailed. I personally like [Read more…]

iPink – WinterBoard Theme

Available In: Cydia       Price: Free

winterBoard Ok ladies, it seems that someone has finally taken pity on us and the fact that there is a massive lack in themes for us girls! iPink is now available via Cydia. It is a full UI theme. It changes basically everything on your iPhone to pink…from icons, to the calculator, to badges, to chat bubbles, to weather themes, to the keyboard, to all UI interfaces. It’s crazy.

Honestly, I’m not a huge fan of the theme. There are a few aspects of the theme I do like however, other pieces seems a little too thrown together for me. But, if you are looking for a complete UI theme that is pink…this just might be the one for you! Check out the screenshots below.

Dames 1.0

Available In: Cydia       Price: Free

Dames I was excited to see a new game, Dames – a Checkers application, in Cydia this morning. We haven’t had a ton of new games lately so, I was eager to check it out. However, I cannot seem to get the app to work. When it opens, I get a splashscreen (a very nice looking splashscreen) and then everything goes black. The application stays open, I just get a black screen. I even let it sit for a long time and it didn’t do anything…just stayed on the black screen. I took a look at the app via SSH and it doesn’t look like it is in English…so, I don’t know if that has to do with it or not. [Read more…]
