The Dev Team has released PwnageTool and QuickPwn (for both the Mac and PC) 2.2.5. Below gives you the general idea about the jailbreak for firmware 2.2.1 but, you will want to check out the Dev Team’s website to see all the info (there is a lot more) and to get the links to the jailbreaks.
If your iPhone is unlocked…or you would like it to be unlocked it the future…do not upgrade to firmware 2.2.1.

The Dev Team, specifically MuscleNerd, has released a video via qik.com of a jailbroken iPod Touch 2G (2nd Generation). Unfortunatly the jailbreak only works when tethered (connected via USB) to a computer. They are working on a fix for this but have proven the jailbreak to work by running terminal, Cydia and an NES Emulator (Nintendo). Let us know if the comments if you have an iPod Touch 2G waiting to jailbreak. Here’s the video:
It seems they (the Dev Team) are getting closer to the 2nd Generation iPod Touch jailbreak. They recently posted the first screenshot of a jailbroke 2nd gen iPod Touch on their website. However, it seems that the process has not yet been perfected and isn’t quite ready for public release. So far, there is no ETA on when the jailbreak will be available. I recently upgraded to firmware 2.2 and finally had time to jailbreak it.
Jailbreaking allows you to add programs and change settings that Apple doesn’t allow. It also lets you change your icons, sounds and dock. The first thing you need to do is download QuickPwn for firmware 2.2 (also works on firmware 2.0.1, 2.0.2, 2.1). You should also sync your iPhone before you jailbreak so everything gets backed up.
Connect your iPhone to your computer via a USB cable.
Then click the blue arrow in the bottom right corner to continue.
QuickPwn will search your computer for the 2.2 firmware. [Read more…]

Now, I’m not sure if it works with a 3G iPhone, so feel free to tell me in the comments. The guys over at iClarified (which are notorious for findings and mods) have made an article on how to Unlock/Jailbreak an iPhone 2G. Here’s the link to the article; it also contains download links for everything you will need to do it with. Looks like a easy-ish process, but that’s for you to judge!

The Dev Team has released their recent hack of Firmware 2.
1. They have also claimed the rumors of iTunes 8 blocking the pwn is not true and there is still a way. So far, this hack uses QuickPwn and Pwnage tools for the Mac only.
It’s not confirmed if it works on the new iPod Touch 2G as the Dev Team doesn’t have one yet.

I just upgraded one of our 1st Gen iPhones to 2.
0.2 firmware form 2.0 and kept getting an error using the QuickPwn feature of WinPwn. Luckily there is a new release of WinPwn that fixes these types of errors.
You can download the update here. When upgrading, don’t forget to uninstall your previous version of WinPwn if you have one. To update just click the pinapple in the very top left corner and then click for updates.
After the update the jailbreak went smooth with no problems.
We recently upgraded Brooke’s iPhone to 2.0.2 firmware. I’ve been waiting for the best way to jailbreak it for Windows. QuickPwn GUI is now availble for 2.0.2 firmware so I thought I would give it a shot. It’s very easy to use. You just follow the steps it gives you.
This will jailbreak your iPhone but will not unlock the 3G yet.
It will add Cydia and Installer without the need to restore your firmware. The Dev Team says the mac version is coming soon.

Looks like WinPwn 2.5 will be here soon. WinPwn is the Windows version of PwnageTool for Mac. It jailbreaks your iPhone or iPod Touch and also unlocks 1st Gen iPhones.
So far it’s not available for download yet but it will support firmware 2.0.2. Here’s some feature notes and screenshots:
