Yesterday, the Dev-Team updated redsn0w. The update allows the ability to jailbreak iOS 4.2.1 as well as install custom bundles. However, it is not compatible with the new version of Cydia and is still a tethered jailbreak for some devices. This jailbreak is created for people who are comfortable with the jailbreak process. Make sure you read all of the Dev-Teams info (below) before you give it a shot.

New Jailbreak Exploit Working for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch 4G
Yesterday, @MuscledNerd (a Dev-Team member) tweeted that @pod2G had found a jailbreak exploit. Today MuscleNerd went on to say “tweet” that the exploit works on iOS 4.
1. He also mentioned that the exploit not only works on the iPhone 4 but also the iPad and the iPod touch 4. So… hopefully we are getting closer to a jailbreak! @pod2g tweeted that there will be a demo available soon (which I was trying to hold out for) but I haven’t seen it yet.
They did however post a wiki page for “SHAtter” – which I’m assuming is the name of the jailbreak. [Read more…]

iPhone 4, 3GS & 3G Unlock – ultrasn0w 1.0-1
The iPhone 4 unlock is ready! Remember, unlocking is different from jailbreaking. Unlocking lets you use your iPhone on other carriers. Of course, in the US the only other carrier that works with the iPhone is T-Mobile. This unlock is done by first jailbreaking the iPhone allowing applications to be installed that Apple doesn’t approve of. Then, in Cydia, you will need to add this source: repo666.ultrasn0w.com Then you can install ultrasn0w. [Read more…]

Easy Jailbreak Coming Soon For iPhone 4 & All Devices
The dev team has been tweeting lots of good news lately. What does all of this mean? It pretty much means the jailbreak is figured out and now they are making a simple little program for all of us to run to get it done. Once it’s out we’ll let you know. I still plan on jailbreaking my iPhone 4. Mostly to get rid of the pop ups from text messages. And I love the weather in my status bar.
@MuscleNerd has posted the following tweets:
Dev-Team Releases Developer Jailbreak for 4.0 Firmware
We have known for a week or so that the 4.0 firmware is jailbreakable however, the Dev-Team has now released a beta of the jailbreak. This jailbreak is specifically for “developers of jailbroken apps.” Like all jailbreaks, it has restrictions. Below is some info from the Dev-Team.

iPhone Firmware 4.0 Already Jailbroken
iPad Jailbroken!
We heard that it probably wouldn’t take long for the iPad to be jailbroken and it’s true. A few devs have been at work since they picked up or received their iPads and it seems they are into the file system. Here are some tweets and a video from the devs on their progress:
Jailbreak Firmware 3.1.3 With PwnageTool 3.1.5 for Mac OS X
redsn0w Jailbreak For Firmware 3.1.2
You now have another option to jailbreak your iPhone on firmware 3.1.2. redsn0w had finally been released. It has been in beta stage but is now complete. You can download it and read more at the Dev Team’s blog at blog.iphone-dev.org. This jailbreak is like blackra1n where you don’t have to restore your iPhone in order to jailbreak. PwnageTool creates a custom firmware you restore your iPhone with. redsn0w 0.9 comes with new features like changing the boot logo! You will lose any unlocks and if you have a new iPhone 3GS or iPod touch out of the box 3.1.2, it still a tethered jailbreak:
This version of redsn0w does not provide an untethered jailbreak for those of you with brand new iPhone 3GS, iPod touch 2G, or any iPod touch 3G. redsn0w will jailbreak those but it will still be a tethered jailbreak until some new exploit is found and released.

Dev-Team Talks About the blackra1n Jailbreak
The Dev-Team has updated their blog with a little snippet about the blackra1n jailbreak. Below is what they have to say.
You can see the original article HERE.
Update: geohot released a Windows jailbreak called “blackra1n” which is similar to redsn0w in that it covers multiple devices (and it covers beyond just firmware 3.0.1 where redsn0w currently stops). blackra1n is not a carrier unlock. You must always avoid updating your baseband to maintain your unlockability.

Dev Team Talks about 3.1.2 Firmware
Yesterday, Apple released firmware 3.1.2. Yes, I know this happened yesterday, but we are currently on vacation in the beautiful countryside of Wisconsin and our AT&T Cellular Data Card is having sketchy service (go figure). :)
According to the Dev Team, you will want to hold off on up upgrading because neither PwnageTool or redsn0w work on 3.1.2. Below is what they had to say on their blog. [Read more…]
