Calendar for NotificationCenter

I love hacks like SBSettings that allow me to put the current date in my statusbar all the time. But, if you’re looking for a little more info, check out this hack. It adds a full calendar into your Notification Center. There are no settings for the hack but to turn it on and off. You can swipe left and right on the calendar to see other months. This app is free and can be downloaded in the Cydia App. [Read more…]

AppUpdateNotifier – Push Notifications for App Store Updates

This is an application that should have originally came with the App Store. This application sends you a push notification every time one of your installed apps has an update. You can configure the app under your Settings app to check hourly, daily, weekly or monthly for new updates. There’s also an ignore list so you can disable notifications for certain application updates. I use the ignore list for Apple apps that recently updated for iOS 5.1 that I do not want to update because I’m still on 5.0.1. This application is $1.49 in the Cydia Store. [Read more…]

MusicBanners – Music Tracks in Notification Center

MusicBanners is a nice addition to the stock iOS Notification Center. This hack notifies you when a new music track is playing. It will show up in all the normal places regular notifications appear such as the banner at the top, the lock screen or the pull down notification center. The hack also works with Pandora and possibly other music apps but it’s originally made for the iOS Music app (formerly the iPod app) but when you open the notification it will always open the music app. Hopefully a future update can fix this but it’s still a great hack. This app is free in the Cydia Store. [Read more…]

This free little hack is exactly what the name suggests. It simply removes the little button on your lockscreen that turns your iPad into a picture frame. If you’re using the iPad as a kiosk or for other reasons and you want to remove this button, this is the solution. Here’s a before and after screenshot. [Read more…]

Hidden iPad Facebook App Found, Then Blocked by Facebook, Then Re-Hacked! [Update]

Recently, someone figured out that if they changed just one little number in the code for the iPhone Facebook app, the iPad app would be revealed when installed on the iPad. You needed to be jailbroken so you could access the Facebook app files to change the code that marks the app for the iPhone or iPad. The app was a little buggy but the layout was pretty good. Nothing to blow your mind but better than the tiny little iPhone app. UPDATE: There is a hack in Cydia called FaceForward that re-enables the hack and doesn’t require the step by step hacks below! Friday Night Movie Night: Swype

This app is still in Beta but if you want to check it out, it’s now available in Cydia. If you’re not familiar with Swype, it’s an alternative to traditional touchscreen typing. Instead of tapping each key, you start with the first letter of the word you’re typing and then drag it to each letter and lift off on the last letter. Check it out in the video below and if you try it out, let us know what you think. [Read more…]

MusicCenter – iOS 5 Widget

Hackers have figured out how to add their own custom widgets to Apples new notification center in iOS 5. The first one we’re writing about is called MusicCenter. This shows you what song is currently playing and if you swipe to the side, shows the music controls. It is available in Cydia for free! Developed by @WrightsCS [Read more…]

BytaFont – Change System Fonts on iPhone, iPad or iPod touch

There have been jailbreak apps that change fonts before but for the 4.x firmware I am liking an app called BytaFont. It’s free and there are a lot of fonts available with more being added all the time. Some are a little crazy but some are sweet. You can even have different fonts in different areas of your device. Here’s a list of all the areas: [Read more…]

Color Mail Labels

If you have multiple accounts in your Mail app and would like a better way to organize them check out this hack. Color Mail Labels has many different ways to color your inbox so you can tell what account the email is coming from. When coloring accounts you can pick from any color using their color picker. The options include Small Squares, Big Rectangles, Small Circles, Small Circles Right, Colored Date, Colored Date Block, Shaded Background & Small Squares Right. The app is still in development and new styles come out often. Below I’ve posted screenshots of all the styles at the time of writing the article. My favorite are Shaded Background & Colored Date Block. The app is $0.99 in Cydia. [Read more…]

PhotoProtect – Prevent Photos from Being Deleted

PhotoProtect is a cool little hack that allows the ability to keep the photos and/or videos in your Camera Roll from being deleted. This is a great way to prevent kids from accidentally deleting your photos! Once installed, the hack is automatically activated. If you go into the Camera Roll and select the trash button you will get a pop-up that says, “Don’t delete my photos! It’s a trap!” When you select OK, it will do nothing. The photo will not be deleted and will stay in the Camera Roll.

Twizzler – Remove Trending Topic From Twitter 3.3

Twitter just updated their app for the iPhone with some great features but they added a really annoying feature. At the top of the screen they added a rotating banner with current trending topics. It’s about the size of a typical ad and is really, really annoying. Thankfully, @chpwn made a hack to remove it and the hack is free in Cydia. Just search for Twizzler and install. Check out the before and after pics below. [Read more…]

TVDown Screenshot Animation

TVDown Screenshot Animation is a hack that changes the animation when taking a screenshot. Normally, when you take a screenshot, you would see a quick white flash. This hack changes the “flash” to an animation that is similar to an “old-tv-powering-down.” It’s kind of cool. You can get TVDown Screenshot Animation via the BigBoss source.

MobileNotifier – A Better Notification System

I really, really, really hate the pop up notifications on the iPhone. Really. So when I saw this alternative I was very excited to try it out. It looks great and so far, works well. Instead of getting a pop up for a text, you get what’s pictured below. Much better. When you receive a text, you will be able to select if you want to view it now or later. If you choose now, it opens up your Messages app and if you choose later, it leaves a badge on the stock Messages app icon and closes the notification.

SIGnify – Add HTML to Your Email Signature

We’ve wrote about tweaking your email signature before but it was a detailed process which involved SSH and other complicated steps. This hack is simple and once installed, just requires you to use HTML to tweak your signature. You can change colors, fonts and size as well as add pictures and other images. To do this you’ll have to know some HTML but there is a nice guide at that helps you out with basic changes. [Read more…]
