ultrasn0w Progress

Dev-Team I know many of you are anxiously awaiting the released of ultrasn0w. I have been waiting all day to see if I would have more to report about it but, at least they are making progress. Earlier this morning, MuscleNerd did say that ultrasn0w is compatible with PIN-locked sims. Below are a few tweets, from today, with info about how ultrasn0w is coming along… [Read more…]

Jailbreak 3.0 on iPhone 3G, 1st Gen iPhone & 1st Gen iPod Touch – pwnagetool for Mac

DevTeamThe Dev Team has released the jailbreak for 3.0 firmware for the iPhone 3G, 1st Gen iPhone and 1st Gen iPod Touch. That means the iPhone 3GS and the 2nd Gen iPod Touch on firmware 3.0 is not jailbreakable at this time. You can download PwnageTool for Mac only at this time. QuickPwn for Mac and PC will be out later. Make sure if you’re unlocked on iPhone 3G to wait until Ultrasn0w is released. Here’s the notes from the Dev Team Website:

1. GOLDEN RULE: If you are using a 3G iPhone with yellowsn0w and rely on yellowsn0w to obtain cellular service, then you should NOT use PwnageTool right now. UltraSn0w is not included with this release and therefore your baseband will be locked and unable to use an operator other than the official one it was bought for. UltraSn0w will be release via APT (cydia and icy) soon. If you have an original iPhone (1st generation) then 3.0 unlock works with this PwnageTool release.

2. Yellowsn0w in its current form will NOT work with the baseband version that is present in the 3.0 update, you will need Ultrasn0w, which will be released sometime soon, Ultrasn0w will work with all iPhone 3G models (but not 3GS), even ones that were previously unlockable, Ultrasn0w (when available) will be released via APT (this means you can get it via Cydia or Icy).

3. Please read all parts of this post before downloading and using these tools.
4. Read items 1, 2 and 3 again and again.
5. At the bottom of this post are the bittorrent files for the 3.0 capable version of PwnageTool.
6. This app is suitable for the recent 3.0 release.
7. PwnageTool will NOT work for the iPhone 3GS.
8. PwnageTool WILL work for Original iPhone (1st Generation), Original iPod touch (1st Generation) and the iPhone 3G.

iPhone 3GS Unlock Info

MuscleNerd If you follow MuscleNerd on Twitter (he is a member of the Dev-Team) you may already know this information but, this morning he twittered that the iPhone 3GS is being shipped with baseband 04.26.08. That is the baseband that ultrasn0w can be used on. Meaning, if the iPhone 3GS can be jailbroke, it can be unlocked using ultrasn0w. [Read more…]

Updated Sources Page

AiS I spent the afternoon updating our Sources page with all of the current sources available for install via Cydia and ones that can be added manually. I updated the Language Sources section as well. Sourcea with an * indicate sources that can be added through the More Package Sources section in Cydia. Sources without an * will need to be added manually. For more info on adding sources to Cydia (both manually and through Cydia)…check out THIS guide.

Doug updated the Jailbreak, Unlock and Firmware pages as well.

Dev Team Repo Update

Available In: Cydia       Price: Free

Dev Team Doug and I have noticed in recent days that the Dev Team’s repo, that we had manually added to Cydia, was not working and we were not able to download the newest version of yellowsn0w. Well, it seems that they have released a new source via Cydia. So, no more adding the source manually…just open Cydia and install the Dev-Team source package. When you install the source, you are then able to install the new version of yellowsn0w, 0.9.7, which is compatibly with the “pwned 2.2.1 system (not baseband). Again remember 0.9.7 yellowsn0w DOES NOT WORK WITH 2.2.1 (02.30.03) directly – you need to be running a ‘pwned’ version of 2.2.1 which didn’t upgrade the baseband during the restore/upgrade.” [Read more…]

Firmware 2.2.1 Jailbreak Info – Dev Team

Dev TeamThe Dev Team has released PwnageTool and QuickPwn (for both the Mac and PC) 2.2.5. Below gives you the general idea about the jailbreak for firmware 2.2.1 but, you will want to check out the Dev Team’s website to see all the info (there is a lot more) and to get the links to the jailbreaks.

If your iPhone is unlocked…or you would like it to be unlocked it the future…do not upgrade to firmware 2.2.1.

iPhone 3G Unlock yellowsn0w Sources Now Available!!

Dev Team Well, it is official, an iPhone 3G unlock is now available! Here is a link to the article that contains the iPhone 3G unlock sources. We are linking to the actual article instead of just posting the sources in case they are ever changed. They provide one source for Cydia and another for Installer. All you need to do is add the corresponding source into Cydia or Installer on your iPhone 3G…if you need instructions on how to do so please see our f.a.q. page.

iPhone 3G Unlock Pre-Release Info for yellowsn0w

Dev TeamThe Dev Team has released some info about the iPhone 3G unlock. Previous information is true that the unlock will work with the newest version of iPhone firmware 2.2 and the baseband that comes with it, version 02.28.00. This means that if you upgraded to 2.2 without using a custom firmware the unlock will still work. It also means you will need to update to 2.2 if you are still on 2.0 or 2.1. The unlock software, called yellowsn0w, will be available via an app in Cydia or Installer. We’re still waiting on the Dev Team to release the Source URL that you need to add to Cydia or Installer. Once we get it, we’ll let you know. We’ll also post a walkthrough of the process. You can read more about the release of yellowsn0w on the Dev Team’s Blog.

iPhone Dev Team’s Binary Message

Dev TeamThe Dev team recently posted a binary message on their site and we thought we’d help you figure out what it means. First, you need to know that the code is written in binary. This is the code that computers run on. You can use a binary to text conversion tool found here to convert the code. So the original looks like this: 011101100111010001100001011000100110010101110010001000000011011000110001
00110000001101100011000000110001001101110011010000100000

After translation you get this: vtaber 61060174

“vtaber” is the word “IGNORE”. It is decoded using ROT13 which is “a simple substitution cipher used in online forums as a means of hiding spoilers, punchlines, puzzle solutions, and offensive materials from the casual glance.” (Thanks wikipedia!) [Read more…]

Dev Team Presents at CCC in Berlin

Dev TeamThe Dev Team gave a presentation on the jailbreaking and unlocking processes at CCC in Berlin last week. It’s about an hour long but very intersting. This was the first time most of the team had met in person. Here’s some notes I took from the video:

– There are about 180 active users from within Apple’s corperate IP range downloading pwnage tool or quickpwn
– Apple released their security patches one at a time which allowed each one to be reverse engineered. If they did it all at once, it may not have been possible.
– The Dev Team has worked through a lot of levels to get the jailbreaks and unlocks to work. Thanks Dev Team!
