TubeJunkies – RSS Reader for YouTube

Available In: App Store       Price: $5.99

TubeJunkiesWhen I first heard about this app I wasn’t too interested because I hardly ever use YouTube. I really hate that you can’t sort your search results to the most recent videos when you search for something. I’ve recently been interested in remote control cars, specifically from a brand named Traxxas. They have many different models and I’ve been searching YouTube on my computers and checking them out. I also check iPhone videos every once in a while for the latest info.

With TubeJunkies I can enter in these search terms and it shows me the most recent videos like an RSS reader. It also makes the thumbnail dim once I’ve watched them. The only catch is some videos, maybe 20% of them, are too new and haven’t been converted for the iPhone. If you’re into YouTube the apps worth it. However, it’s biggest downfall is the price at $5.99. I’d probably pay $2.99 max for it. [Read more…]

Instinctiv Shuffle – An iPod “smart shuffle” application

Available In: Cydia       Price: Free

Instinctiv Shuffle Instinctiv Shuffle was released a few days ago for firmware 2.x. It looks, functions and has the same user interface as the previous version of the application that was available for firmware 1.1.4 and below. For those of you who are not familiar with Instinctiv Shuffle, it is a “smart shuffle” application. When you install Instinctiv Shuffle and turn it on, it replaces the shuffle feature in your iPod with Instinctiv Shuffle. It then uses an “…advanced AI to analyze what music you want to hear based on the songs you skip and the ones you don’t. Within just a few skips, we can play only the right songs that fit your current mood and activity. Based on skipping behavior, Instinctiv Shuffle™ anticipates what you want to hear next.” [Read more…]

12Seconds – Create “Video” Slideshows

Available In: App Store       Price: $0.99

12Seconds12 seconds? Well, according to the application’s developers, this is how long one will continue paying attention to a video without losing interest. Still reading? Well, if you’re a fan of Twitter, and if you’re handy with a web cam, then chances are you might already be aware of 12seconds.tv. I was unaware of the site and as an iPhone user, I don’t have access to video recording capabilities (note to Mr. Jobs, any chance of video in a future iPhone?) Anyways, the 12seconds team has come up with a temporary solution with its native iPhone app now on sale in the App Store.

Overview
Basically, once you have a 12seconds.tv account (you can sign up quickly through the application), you can immediately record an update with your iPhone. Since there is no video capability built into the iPhone, what you will be doing is creating a 3-picture slideshow and adding 12 seconds of recorded audio to your broadcast. [Read more…]

MobileCast 3.0~b1

Another app that made it’s debut this week-end was MobileCast. I really liked the MobileCast application from firmware 1.1.4 and below!! I used it all the time! So, I was really excited to see that MobileCast had made it to firmware 2.x. MobileCast is an application that allows you to wireless download podcasts.

The new MobileCast has a slightly new look and feel to it. When you open the application, you will notice three options on the lower menu bar; Favorites, Downloads and Search. The Search option allows you to search for audio and video podcasts. I will say that the search is a little slow and slightly glitchy but, if you can make it past that, you will get a list of relevant options based on your search. You can then select Add next to the podcast you would like to add to your favorites. You will get a pop-up saying that the podcast feed was successfully added. [Read more…]
