Tricker ThreeG – Use SlingPlayer Mobile on 3G

Available In: Cydia       Price: Free

Tricker ThreeG Tricker ThreeG is a mod that allows the SlingPlayer Mobile application (available via the App Store for $29.99) to work on not only WiFi but also on 3G. It is not very often that I write about an application/mod/hack that I cannot test but, I know that allowing SlingPlayer Mobile to work on 3G is something a lot of people want. If you you own a SB, have purchased the SlingPlay Mobile application and have installed this hack…let us know how it is working for you! It would be pretty sweet if it actually works. The Tricker ThreeG apps also says that it works with Skype and Fring. You can get it via the modmyi source.

Round and Round – WinterBoard Theme

Available In: Cydia       Price: Free

round & round roundandround3 Round and Round is a theme that consists of transparent round icons. Unlike the popular Glass Orb theme, Round and Round adds a bit of color with a colored graphic inside of each transparent circle. Honestly, I feel like I have seen these icons before but, I can’t come up with the name of the theme so maybe they are just similar to another theme’s icons. Round and Round only contains the basic 16 icons and a Cydia icon (no iTunes and App Store icons with this one), a dock and a wallpaper. However, the wallpaper is a little too crazy for me…I went with a plain black wallpaper. You can get Round and Round via the iSpazio source. [Read more…]

Blokt – Puzzle Game

Available In: App Store       Price: $o.99

Blokt If you like puzzle games as much as I do, I’m pretty sure you’ll love Blokt. Blokt is a game where there are several different sized rectangles in the way of the red rectangle. The goal is to clear the way for the red to exit the box that the rest are in. The blocks that are pointing up and down can only move up and down and the blocks that are pointing side to side can only move side to side. The concept is pretty simple but then again, so is a rubix cube! That’s pretty much it… there are really no settings to speak of and as far as I can tell everything is pretty self explanatory. Paris “At a Glance” – Everything You Need To Know About Paris

Available In: App Store       Price: $5.99

Paris So when I got Paris “At a Glance” I kinda just figured Paris was just part of the title and that you could put in any city you wanted to and it would bring up points of interest for that area. Yeah, not so much. This app is pretty much everything you could possibly want to know about Paris, France. However, this is not necessarily a bad thing. Paris gives you the ability to search pretty much any point of interest in and around Paris. This includes History and Culture, Things to see, Food, Shopping, Lodging, and Nightlife. Once you select a category it brings up a list of interesting places or restaurants or whatever for you to browse through and it also provides ratings out of 3 stars so you know what other people think about that particular attraction. You can also add certain places to a favorites list as you plan your trip. [Read more…]

Air Sharing Pro – File Storage Solution and Document Viewer

Available In: App Store       Price: $4.99

Air Sharing Pro Upon browsing the App Store one day, I remember stumbling upon Air Sharing, a file storage solution and document viewer for the iPhone. Since it was being offered for free as a promotion, I downloaded it, but didn’t really explore the program until a few weeks later. Since that time, I have reviewed two other similar programs for AppleiPhoneSchool: iDownload and ReaddleDocs. What follows below is a pre-release review of Air Sharing Pro, the major update to the original Air Sharing application. While the application has a plethora of options and features, I will choose to focus on ones that are included in the update and ones that appealed directly to me. [Read more…]

NativeUI – WinterBoard Theme

Available In: Cydia       Price: Free

NativeUI nativeuitheme2 NativeUI is nice, clean WinterBoard theme. The theme does require just a little bit of set-up (nothing like an iNav theme does!). When you install NativeUI, there are a few things you need to do in WinterBoard. First, activate the NativeUI theme. You will also need to activate the No Docked Icons Labels and No Undocked Icon Labels options. Once out of WinterBoard, you will need to rearrange your icons slightly. In your top row of icons you want your Weather icon, your Calendar icon, a blank icon and your Clock icon. In the dock you will need the Phone, Email, SMS and iPod icons. You can put whatever icons you would like in your second and third row of icons. See the screenshots below. One thing I like about this theme is that it accommodate the WeatherIcon and LiveClock mods. There are not a ton of themes that do this, especially ones that are a little more unique like this one. StatusBar Dots – Move Page Dots to Your Status Bar

Available In: Cydia       Price: Free

StatucBar Dots StatusBar Dots is a mod that moves your page dots to your status bar. So, instead of having the dots below your forth row (or fifth if you are using the FiveIrows mod) they are on your status bar. In order to have the page dots on your status bar, the app moves your time over to the far right on your status bar (similar to the RightClock mod).

If you do not have any sort of status bar notifications, this mod should work well for you. However, if you do have status bar notifications, it will push all your notification over to the right and they will overlap on top of each other. You also cannot see the ninth page indicator dot if you have notifications on your status bar. [Read more…]

American Muscle Car – Wallpaper Pack

Available In: Cydia       Price: Free

American Muscle Car amc1970chevellessAmerican Muscle Car is a wallpaper pack that contains 10 muscle car wallpapers. It includes a 1958 Bel Air, 1967 Pontiac GTO, 1969 Chevy Camaro, 1970 Chevel, 1971 Javelin AMX, 1972 Riviera Vector, Ford GT, GTO, Monte Carlo and a random muscle car (ok, I totally stole all those off the file names…shhh, don’t tell!).

I’m sure some of you are interested in this wallpaper pack…I know Doug is a fan of muscle cars but, I think that has to do with the fact that he still has his first car…a 1974 Plymouth Fury (which, I have been told on multiple occasions is going to be fixed up one day though, I have yet to see any evidence of this! :) ). You can get American Muscle Car via the MacCiti source. Below are screenshots of all ten wallpapers. Also, when you install this wallpaper pack, the wallpapers are added to your stock Settings application under Wallpapers. [Read more…]

Twidget – View Tweets on Lock Screen

Available In: Cydia       Price: Free

Twidget Twidget is a sweet application that allows you to view tweets on your lock screen. When you install Twidget, it will add an icon to your SpringBoard. When you launch the app, you will need to enter your Twitter info. Next, you will need to go into WinterBoard and activate Twidget.

Once you have entered your info and activated Twidget via WinterBoard, you can lock your iPhone or iPod Touch. You should see a menu bar with the options; Friends, Own, Replies, Favorite and Refresh. You will also see a bar indicating that your tweets are loading. The first time it took quite a while for my tweets to load acutally, I ended up deactivating and reactivating it in WinterBoard and then it went. Once your tweets load, you are able to view your most recent 10 tweets by your Friends, your own tweets, your @ replies and your favorites. You can also refresh the tweets using the refresh option. Sometimes it refreshed really quickly, other times it took a while….usually it is pretty quick. [Read more…]

Numerus – Scientific Calculator

Available In: App Store       Price: $1.99

Numerus As a math and science teacher, I do a fair share of tutoring to make some additional income. I often carry my trusty TI-83 Plus (special edition blue, baby!) with me, but there have been several times when all I had was my iPhone. I will admit that the included iPhone calculator makes for a pretty decent substitute, and I get my scientific calculator functions when I rotate to landscape mode. However, there remained some functionality that was to be desired, and having a one-line display seems to remind me of the difference between a TI-30 and its bigger cousin, TI-83.

When sitting side to side with my TI-83 Plus, Numerus clearly has fewer buttons and no graphing capabilities. However, the app does pack in a decent number of buttons and their corresponding math functions. Numerus offers a multi-line display so you can see previous calculations right above your current calculation. All of the regular calculator functions along with those normally found on a standard scientific calculator are displayed on the iPhone screen in portrait mode. Different modes (degrees, radians, grad), along with a catalog of math functions exist. A “2nd” button allows you to choose other functions that don’t have a dedicated button, similar to what you would see on any commercial scientific calculator. [Read more…]

QuickLock – SpringBoard One Tap Lock Option

Available In: Cydia       Price: Free

QuickLock QuickLock is an application that allows you to lock you iPhone or iPod Touch with one tap on your SpringBoard. When you install QuickLock, it will add an icon to your SpringBoard. When you tap on the icon your device will go into lock mode. I was surprised at how quickly it locked my iPhone. I was expecting some sort of delay when I taped the icon but, it immediately locked my device. [Read more…]

Safety Not Guaranteed – WinterBoard Theme

Available In: Cydia       Price: Free

Safety Not Guaranteed safetynotguarenteed2 Safety Not Guaranteed is a clear icon theme. I personally love clear icons because I can change my wallpaper and feel like I have a whole new theme! This clear icon set is actually a little different than most…it has a design to it. Most transparent icon themes tend to just be the stock icons…but see-through. The theme contains a dock, wallpaper, status bar, 128 icons and a few UI mods. I did find that I had a little bit of trouble getting the theme to work correctly with the LiveClock and WeatherIcon mods. In order for it to look correct, you can either disable both mods (using the LiveClock Disabled and No Weather Icon mods) or you can move your preferred weathericon and liveclock mods above the Safety Not Guaranteed theme in WinterBoard. You can get this theme via the iSpazio source [Read more…]

Firmware 3.0 Preview: Stocks

StocksFirst, the Stocks application gets a new icon. It’s not a total redesign, but they did take off the labels at the bottom of the graph in the icon. Also, the design of the line on the graph has more of a sharp line than curvy. Most of the app is still the same but there are some valuable new features. When tapping on the stock’s units on the right, in green or red, you now get a third option. Not only do you get the percentage and price change, but you get the Mkt Cap. Best of all, there’s a nice new landscape view. It’s a big, full screen graph like the small one in portrait view. Overall, a great update to a simple app from Apple. [Read more…]
