MyLite 1.0 & Update Preview

Available In: App Store       Price: Free

MyLiteMyLite is no ordinary flash light. Developed by DoApp, it opens to a while light for use as a simple light, but double tapping opens settings that expand the app. The top slider bar gives you the choice to change the color and the bottom bar changes the shade of that color which in turn effects it’s brightness.

Tapping the “Show Effects” option brings up even more settings. This allows you to change from the “Normal” mode (steady on) to either a “Strobe” setting that flashes the light on and off, or “Trippin'” mode that scans through different colors. On the right you’ll see a scroll wheel of 10ths of a second. This selects the speed of the flashing in “Strobe” mode and the speed of change in color in “Trippin'” mode. [Read more…]

Light Removed from App Store

Light It seems another application has been removed from the App Store. Erica Sadun’s Light, was officially removed from the App Store today. This was confirmed even further by Erica’s tweet, “RIP Light.”

The removal seems to be due to some hacking on Erica’s part. It seems that she hacked a little bit of code that allowed her application control the brightness of the iPhone. So, when you opened Light, it would force your iPhone to go to full brightness instead of the brightness that your iPhone was set at in your stock Settings. Then, when you closed the application, your iPhone would go back to the original brightness you had it set at. Although this is a feature that many of us desperately would like to have, it is against Apple’s rules to affect the brightness of the iPhone.

Carrie’s Dots 1.0

Available In: App Store       Price: Free

I love this game! It takes me back to the day…you know when you used to make a million dots on a piece of paper! When you open the app, it will bring you directly to the main play screen. On the main play screen, you will notice the title of the two players at the bottom of the screen and an “i” icon. If you select the information icon you will get the option to change the title of the players, start a new game and learn more about the application. To get back to the main menu, select Done in the upper right corner.

Now, you are ready to play. The object of the game is to [Read more…]

App Store/iTunes Bug

BisBoss BigBoss has written an article on a problem with the App Store/iTunes which also affects Cydia (and will probably also affect Installer 4.0). The problem has to do with installing applications. Have you had a time when you install an app and your iPhone just sits there…there is no icon and you have a spinning wheel next to your carrier icon on your status bar? This has happened to me once and Doug a few times. Though, it is always with App Store apps and never with apps installed via Cydia. Below is what BigBoss has to say about the bug.

gLauncher 1.0 and Launcher 1.0

Available In: Cydia       Price: Free

As of now, there are two options for application launching apps via Cydia; gLauncher and Launcher. Both are very simple applications.

gLauncher gLauncher, when selected, will open to an alphabetical list of all the applications you have installed on your iPhone or iPod Touch. It will display the application icon, the title of the application and plist info for that app. When you tap on an application, it will automatically open that application.

Launcher Launcher is basically the same application it just looks a little different. When you open Launcher you still get an alphabetical list of all the apps you have installed on your iPhone or iPod Touch however, [Read more…]

Metronome 2.11

Metronome is a really nice application that will either display a metronome based on BMP or that allows you to tap out your own tempo. When you open the application, you will get a pop-up with instructions on how the app can be used via an iPod Touch. You will then get the main screen. At the top of the screen is the option to turn on/off the metronome. Turning off the metronome allows you to tap your own tempo. If you turn the metronome on, you can then adjust the metronome using a the options given. You can adjust the Beats Per Minute (BPM), the Beats and the type of note it plays. What is really nice is that as it plays the beat, it display the number of beat it is on and gives you a nice chime when it starts over on beat one. The slider at the bottom of the screen allows you to change adjust the volume of the metronome.

If you choose to tap in your own beat. [Read more…]

Grid Today

As I said in our video podcast, we recently did a case study with Mosso, our hosting provider. This in turn spawns interviews with news and blogs. Grid Today is a website all about the type of hosting that Mosso provides. Derrick Harris recently interviewed us and published the following article as a result.

In some ways, it is the story of the American dream: husband and wife from a small Iowa town embark on a project as a hobby; project slowly builds a following; and, before you know it, the project becomes the most popular entity in its niche, turning a side project into a profitable business. quake4iphoneWell, for all of you who think Cydia doesn’t have anything worth jailbreaking for, now there is. Quake has been ported to the iPhone and works on firmware 2.0. This game is very playable but only comes with the shareware Quake files so some of the levels are locked. The sound works great and I didn’t have any lag. Here are some screenshots. We’ll get a video review out as soon as we can. [Read more…]

MacMan 1.0

Available In: Cydia       Price: Free

MacMan We have had quite a few people emailing us about the game MacMan. Well, I finally got a chance to try it out on my 2.0 jailbreak iPhone. MacMan looks to be the first game developed exclusively for the 2.0 firmware. MacMan was not available on previous versions through the Installer. If you love PacMan, you will love MacMan. When you open the application you will get a splash screen and then you will get instructions to touch the screen to begin (the game is played in landscape mode). This will bring you directly into the game.

The object of the game is to eat all the white dots without getting eaten by the little monsters. To move the little PacMan guy, just tilt your iPhone. I found the controls to be [Read more…]

Syncing iPhone taking FOREVER…not anymore!

firmware 2.0 One thing that has been driving me crazy since upgrading to firmware 2.0 is that it takes forever to sync my iPhone…like FOREVER. Well, zerologic published an article describing how to turn off the back-up process using your Mac. This is only an option for those of you who do not keep a lot of important info on your iPhone because it means that you will no longer have a back-up of anything on your iPhone. You would still be able to sync your iPhone with information from your computer, like a contact’s list or calendar. However, anything you have exclusively on your iPhone would not be backed-up.

Make sure you read all the info below before proceeding!
