RightClock – Status Bar Time Mod

Available In: Cydia       Price: Free

RightClock RightClock is an application that will move the time on your status bar to the right side of the status bar just before the battery icon. When you install RightClock, it is added into WinterBoard…where it can be activate and deactivated. I’m not completely sure why you would want your time all the way to the right. The only thing I can think of is that you can then have a longer carrier logo mod. Also, in order for RightClock to work correctly, you cannot have any sort of status bar notifiers. If you have any status bar notifier apps installed and activated (such as IntelliScreen, Notifier, StatusNotifier…etc) it will put the time behind the notification icons on the status bar. RightClock is available via the ModMyi source. See screenshots below! [Read more…]

Readdledocs – Document and File Management Solution

Available In: App Store       Price: $9.99

ReaddledocsInterestingly, after writing a review about iDownload, and reading and responding to a reader’s comment, I began to consider what it would be like to tap into the possibility of using the iPhone as a mobile storage utility. First, I explored Air Sharing, since I downloaded it for free a few months ago, but never actually setup the program. I was impressed with its ease of use, but was disappointed that only WiFi access was available. Upon reading that Readdledocs supported 3G or EDGE connections as well, I became further intrigued.

Overview
Similar to Air Sharing, upon opening Readdledocs, you can view your files and file folders available on your iPhone. When you open a file, the document appears on screen, and the application supports many file formats including the common MS Office file types and PDF files. There is an extensive PDF manual that comes with the program that effectively explains all of the features that come with this program. There are a lot of bells and whistles included (reading ebooks, iDisk access, and exchanging files with other users), but I will stick to the ones that mattered to me the most. In addition to the iPhone’s storage, your purchase of Readdledocs comes with a 512 MB of online storage where you can keep more files of your choosing. A web browser is also included for you to download documents directly into Readdledocs. For an extensive list of features, check out their website. [Read more…]

Copper Stars Copper Stars is actually a pretty cool mod. When you delete an App Store app off of your iPhone or iPod Touch, you get the chance to give it a 1-5 star rating. Lock Calendar Update – Display Calendar Events on Lock Screen

Available In: Cydia       Price: Free

Lock Calendar Lock Calendar has been update to version 0.2. The update has a few bug fixes however, it also updates the appearance of the app and adds some setting options. Like in the previous version, as soon as you install Lock Calendar, it will automatically start displaying Calendar events on your lock screen (it is NOT activated via WinterBoard).

When you install the app, you will notice that the there are is no longer a gray highlight behind the date and that the spacing has been changed so that events are closer together. There are a few other minor aesthetic changes such as a comma after the day in the date. Overall, a nice visual update though, I actually didn’t mind the highlight behind the date in the previous version. Another nice feature of the update are some setting options. [Read more…]

It does take some ssh work along with some code editing. I will walk you through the steps, if you are willing, give it a try. [Read more…]

QuickTip – Link Preview in Safari

Once again, sticking to my Safari theme, below is this week’s QuickTip. If you have a QuickTip you would like to submit you can email it to QuickTip@appleiphoneschool.com.

QuickTip – When in Safari, you can preview a link’s url by tapping and holding it. When you touch and hold your finger down on a link, it will bring up a bubble displaying the link’s url. If you would prefer not to be directed to the link, just slide your finger off the link. If you would like to be directed to the url, just hold your finger down a little longer and then release your finger (instead of sliding it off the link). This QuickTip also works in the Mail application when in an email.

A very useful way to view where a link is going to take you without actually clicking on the link…saves time and avoids spam! See screenshots below. [Read more…]

Blue-Island – Lock Screen Mod

Available In: Cydia       Price: Free

WinterBoard blueislandtheme3 I am continuously on the lookout for a good lock screen theme. I was doing some modding last night and I ran across this theme…Blue-Island via the Apple-News.fr source (this source can be installed via Cydia in the More Package Sources section…check out THIS post for more info).

Blue-Island is a theme that has a very nice lock screen. It is a simple lock screen that displays the time and any missed events (calls, texts, new mail…etc). A quick note before I get started…this is theme is via a French repo so, the theme itself will not work for you unless you are French however, the lock screen works even if you are not French.
