Color Mail Labels

If you have multiple accounts in your Mail app and would like a better way to organize them check out this hack. Color Mail Labels has many different ways to color your inbox so you can tell what account the email is coming from. When coloring accounts you can pick from any color using their color picker. The options include Small Squares, Big Rectangles, Small Circles, Small Circles Right, Colored Date, Colored Date Block, Shaded Background & Small Squares Right. The app is still in development and new styles come out often. Below I’ve posted screenshots of all the styles at the time of writing the article. My favorite are Shaded Background & Colored Date Block. The app is $0.99 in Cydia. [Read more…]

Friday Night Movie Night – Yamaha 01V Wireless

When mixing sound, I’ve always wanted a setup like this. To do what is going on in this video you need a Yamaha 01V classic, iPad, TouchOSC (iTunes link), MacBook Pro and USB to MIDI cable. To keep up with the progress just watch for updates on this YouTube channel: northatlantadj [Read more…]

Jigsaw Puzzle for iPad

My son loves to do puzzles so I thought I’d check out this app for the iPad that lets you create your own puzzle from a picture you provide. First, you start off by picking the picture you want to use. You can choose from any picture in your saved pictures or the ones you sync to your iPad. Once you’ve selected your image, you can choose between 4 different size puzzle pieces. You can also change the background color or image from the setup button. Now that you’re ready you can hit the start button and start putting together the puzzle. As soon as you hit start, a timer begins counting how long it’s taking you. You can swipe back and forth through the pieces along the bottom and, just like a real puzzle, it’s easier to start with the border pieces. You can pinch and zoom on the picture and workspace to see better and there is a preview button, which I’d call a cheat button, because it allows you to see the finished picture dimmed in the background. After playing or finishing the puzzle you can save the game or the entire picture and send to Facebook and Twitter or email it. [Read more…]

This is one of the best inventions for the iPhone. They are little accessories that plug into your headphone jack and dock to protect them from water & dust. They also work in the iPad and iPod touch. Check out my video and pictures below. They are just $9.95 for the set plus shipping and can be purchased at icorkz.com. I recommend them and will be putting them the rest of my devices. [Read more…]

FX Photo Studio HD – On Sale Today for $0.99

Normally this app is $4.99, but today (03-16-11) it’s on sale for just $0.99. It currently has 181 effects and filters and has some tools like rotate and crop. You can also combine effects for even more vacations. Some of the better known effects include Sepia, TiltShift, Posterize, Blur and the list goes on and on. I also like the many options you have in sharing your photos. Not only can you save it to your iPad but you can share it via Flickr, Tumblr, Facebook, Twitter or email. Big Picture – App For Boston.com The Big Picture

I love the feature on Boston.com‘s website called “The Big Picture“. They gather the best photography from current events and display them full screen. The problem with this website on the iPad 1 is there is not enough memory to load all the big pictures. Most picture only show a border where the picture should be with a little blue square. So, with this app, you can swipe through a slideshow of all the pictures including their descriptions. There’s also a button in the top right that allows you to view it in Safari; share via Mail, Facebook or Twitter; or you can save the photo to your photo app. One feature I would like to see is the ability to pinch and zoom on the pictures. I find myself trying to do it often but it still doesn’t work. There is also a nice counter in the bottom right to tell you what picture number you are on and how many are left. [Read more…]

PhotoProtect – Prevent Photos from Being Deleted

PhotoProtect is a cool little hack that allows the ability to keep the photos and/or videos in your Camera Roll from being deleted. This is a great way to prevent kids from accidentally deleting your photos! Once installed, the hack is automatically activated. If you go into the Camera Roll and select the trash button you will get a pop-up that says, “Don’t delete my photos! It’s a trap!” When you select OK, it will do nothing. The photo will not be deleted and will stay in the Camera Roll.

iFixIt’s iPad 2 Teardown [Video]

Just in case you missed it over the week-end, iFixIt released their teardown instructions for the iPad 2. Below is a quick video with a rundown of the differences they found between the first iPad and the iPad 2. It is an interesting watch. They gave the iPad 2 a repairability score of 4/10… not the best score… make sure you hold on tight to that iPad 2! You can get the complete teardown instructions on iFixIt’s website.

iOS 4.3 Untethered Jailbreak [Video]

As I mentioned yesterday, the Dev-Team had informed us that i0n1c had a 4.3 untethered jailbreak ready for when the new iOS was released. Today, i0n1c posted a video demo of the iOS 4.3 untethered jailbreak. There has been no word from the Dev-Team on when the jailbreak will be available. For now, it is being labeled an “alpha” release. Below is the demo video done on an iPad running iOS 4.3.

14 iPad 2 Guided Tour Videos From Apple

Apple has posted 14 videos of the features of the new iPad. Many are repeats from the first iPad but they do included FaceTime, AirPlay, GarageBand and iMovie. These videos are really good for someone looking to get an iPad for the first time and isn’t sure if it will work for them. You can view them all at http://www.apple.com/ipad/guided-tours. iOS 4.3 Now Available

As suspected, the iOS 4.3 update was released today. If you are looking to upgrade to 4.3… you can plug your device into your computer, head over to iTunes and select the “Check for Update” option. This will allow you to update your device to iOS 4.3. Below is Apple’s official changelog for 4.3.

Remember: If you are jailbroke and want to keep your jailbreak… hold off on updating to iOS 4.3. We will let you know when there is a new jailbreak out. The Dev-Team says that the wait shouldn’t be too long because @i0n1c has a 4.3 untether ready. We’ll keep our eye out. [Read more…]

iOS 4.3 To Be Released Today – Should You Upgrade?

During the iPad 2 event, Apple announced iOS 4.3 and it’s release date of March 11th. However, rumor has it, that iOS 4.3 is going to be released today. The upgrade will be available for the iPad, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4 GSM model (meaning the AT&T iPhone and not the Verizon iPhone) and the iPod touch (3rd & 4th generations). Below is a list of a few the features we will see with iOS 4.3.

Note: Like with all firmware updates, if you have a jailbroke device, you will want to hold off on updating when the new iOS is released… especially with the upgrade to iOS 4.3. Below is a warning from BigBoss.

WeatherIcon for iPad Hack

I’ve always wanted the WeatherIcon hack for my iPad but it never works. I looked into it again and found that part of the problem is that the iPad doesn’t have the Weather app from Apple like the iPhone does. After looking around in some forums I found out how to get it working. Here’s the steps I took using an iPhone 4 and a 1st gen iPad. [Read more…]

LifeProof iPhone 4 Case – Water, Sand & Drop Proof

This case looks pretty impressive and surprisingly thin. I saw the case on commandN – Episode #237. They have some pretty convincing videos on the manufacturer’s website of how the case works and I’ve posted them below. They are drop proof to military specs of 2 meters or 6.6 feet, waterproof to 2 meters and snow & sand proof. We’ll try to get one for review once they are out. Right now they are on pre-order only for $69.95. They also make a case for the iPhone 3G/3GS and the iPad. This would make a great case if you have kids! [Read more…]
