FCC Investigates Apple’s Rejection of Google Voice Application

FCC Letter It seems the FCC has decided to get involved with the rejection of the Google Voice application by Apple. If you remember, after they rejected the official Google Voice application, they also removed all thrid party Google Voice applications from the App Store (one of which was then released in the jailbreak community). In letter from the FCC, “the FCC asked why Apple rejected the Google Voice application for the iPhone and removed related applications from its App Store. The letter also seeks information on how AT&T, the exclusive U.S. iPhone carrier, was consulted in the decision, if at all.” Below is are the full letters from the FCC to Apple, FCC to Google and FCC to AT&T.

The Boy Genius Report quoted this at their favorite part of the letter (and I would have to agree). [Read more…]

ViDICTO+ Mytrip: “Learn” a new language through pictures, voice, words, and phrases.

Available In: App Store       Price: $1.99

ViDicto+ “Pronto? Buongiorno. Arrivederci!” This was a typical conversation between my wife and me during the weeks leading up to our honeymoon trip to Italy. Neither of us had any experience speaking Italian, so we downloaded a few podcasts and began practicing as much as we could. I also downloaded a free app that used Google’s translation dictionary to fill in during emergencies. What I really wish we had had was something more visual, something that could help us with pronunciation, and something that could be quicker and less cumbersome than a big dictionary. [Read more…]

The most predominate feature of this application is the ability to input the amount, unit and price of two items in order to compare them and find out which one is the better buy. You are able to choose from a large selection of Units allowing you to compare basically any two items. PDANet SBSettings Toggle

Available In: Cydia       Price: Free

PDANet Toggle PDANet Toggle allows you to easily toggle PDANet, a tethering application, on and off. When you install the application, the toggle is automatically added into your SBSettings’ toggles. I’m not sure if this allows you to close PDANet while connected (without using Backgrounder) and still tether to your computer or if it is just a toggle for the actual app…when on, you can use PDANet, when off, you cannot. I’m not sure because, when I tested it (a million time!!) I couldn’t get it to work but, I’m not going to blame that on the toggle…I blame it on my lame AT&T connection! Let me know in the comments if it worked for you. You can get PDANet Toggle via the BigBoss source. [Read more…]

Weather Machine – Feature-Filled Weather App

Available In: App Store       Price: $3.99

Weather Machine Weather Machine is a very detailed and information loaded weather application. Honestly, this app might have too many features…if that is possible! I’m going to explain a few features of the app and then I will let you watch the demo video so that you can get the full feel of the app.

When the app opens, it will ask to find your current location. After it did this the first time, I actually shut this feature off in the Settings so that it didn’t ask every time I open the app…it is slow and it is not extrememly accurate.

Once the app is open, you will see the current weather conditions including the current temperature, feels like temperature, weather conditions, pressure, humidity, wind direction and wind speed. It you double-tap on the Current Weather screen, it will enlarge the screen and you will get the current visibility and dew point. If you tap on the arrows at the bottom of the current weather screen, it will scroll through surrounding cities. If you rotate the device into landscape mode, you will get a animated Satellite map of the current conditions, a current conditions map, a forecast map and an animated doppler radar map.
