1 Million 3GS iPhones Sold

iPhone 3GS Ok, many of you have probably already heard about this but, in just three days (from Friday to Sunday) Apple sold over a million 3GS iPhones. So much for the thought that the new features were not cool enough for people to upgrade! It would be interesting to know how many of the 1 million are new iPhone customers and how many are upgrades.

Apple also said that in the first five days of the 3.0 firmware release, over 6 million people have download it! I think out of all the firmware updates, more people have upgraded to 3.0 than any other firmware. Let us know in the comments if you didn’t upgrade to the 3.0 firmware and why you didn’t!

AT&T Posts iPhone 3GS Customer Videos

Cydia Update 1.0.2948-58

Cydia has been updated to version 1.0.2948-58. I know a few of you were having issues with Cydia crashing a lot…hopefully this update fixes that! The update does seem to make Cydia run a little smoother. I was hoping it would fix the issues in which no letters are displayed when you search but, it doesn’t seem to. iPhone 3GS vs. iPhone 3G Speed Test

Apple Yesterday, another friend of mine with an iPhone 3GS recorded a speed test between my iPhone 3GS and Brooke’s iPhone 3G. Now Brooke’s iPhone was recently jailbroken but this is still pretty accurate.

ultrasn0w Progress

Categories and SBSettings Updated

Some of you might not see the update for SBSetting and Categories based on when you jailbroke (because then you would already have the new versions) but, both apps were recently updated. They both currently worked on firmware 3.0 so, neither received a very signifcant update, mostly bug fixes. Below are the change logs for both.

Categories 2.23-1:
• Added some debugging info for some crashing some folks are seeing

NES Updated – Works on 3.0

NES 3 is NES “rewritten” and upgraded. According to the developer the game has been “rewritten from scratch and optimized supporting the iPhone 3.0.” So, while you wait for the rest of your apps to be updated for firmware 3.0, at least you can play ROMS. There is one catch, the app is no longer free…it costs $5.99. No free trial either. Also, the it currently only works in portraite mode (landscape mode is coming in the future). [Read more…]

Jailbreak now Available for Windows and iPod Touch (2nd gen)

Jailbreak 3.0 on iPhone 3G, 1st Gen iPhone & 1st Gen iPod Touch – pwnagetool for Mac

DevTeam The Dev Team has released the jailbreak for 3.0 firmware for the iPhone 3G, 1st Gen iPhone and 1st Gen iPod Touch. That means the iPhone 3GS and the 2nd Gen iPod Touch on firmware 3.0 is not jailbreakable at this time. You can download PwnageTool for Mac only at this time. QuickPwn for Mac and PC will be out later. Make sure if you’re unlocked on iPhone 3G to wait until Ultrasn0w is released. Here’s the notes from the Dev Team Website:

1. GOLDEN RULE: If you are using a 3G iPhone with yellowsn0w and rely on yellowsn0w to obtain cellular service, then you should NOT use PwnageTool right now. UltraSn0w is not included with this release and therefore your baseband will be locked and unable to use an operator other than the official one it was bought for. UltraSn0w will be release via APT (cydia and icy) soon. If you have an original iPhone (1st generation) then 3.0 unlock works with this PwnageTool release.

2. Yellowsn0w in its current form will NOT work with the baseband version that is present in the 3.0 update, you will need Ultrasn0w, which will be released sometime soon, Ultrasn0w will work with all iPhone 3G models (but not 3GS), even ones that were previously unlockable, Ultrasn0w (when available) will be released via APT (this means you can get it via Cydia or Icy).

3. Please read all parts of this post before downloading and using these tools.
4. Read items 1, 2 and 3 again and again.
5. At the bottom of this post are the bittorrent files for the 3.0 capable version of PwnageTool.
6. This app is suitable for the recent 3.0 release.
7. PwnageTool will NOT work for the iPhone 3GS.
8. PwnageTool WILL work for Original iPhone (1st Generation), Original iPod touch (1st Generation) and the iPhone 3G.

iPhone 3GS Unlock Info

If you follow MuscleNerd on Twitter (he is a member of the Dev-Team) you may already know this information but, this morning he twittered that the iPhone 3GS is being shipped with baseband 04.26.08. That is the baseband that ultrasn0w can be used on. Meaning, if the iPhone 3GS can be jailbroke, it can be unlocked using ultrasn0w. [Read more…]

Waiting in Line for the iPhone 3GS [liveblog]

The following is my experience waiting in line for the iPhone 3GS. ~~I will be live streaming video later once we get closer to opening (7:00am CT)~~ (didn’t live stream due to rain)

9:07am – Doug has his new iPhone 3GS which he says “Rocks!” Seemed like a painless process and MUCH faster than last year and the iPhone 3G. He is headed home to sync. :)

8:52am – Hi, this is Brooke. I have been instructed to update Doug’s post for him. They let him into the AT&T store early (before the 10:00am time mentioned previously) so, he is currently in the process of getting his new iPhone 3GS. I have a feeling there will not be any video this time around like there has been in the past. It didn’t work out this time. But, Doug should have info about his new iPhone 3GS soon. YAY! Tethering Early on 3.0 Without Jailbreak

I so got this to work. Just go to this site: http://help.benm.at and follow the steps. Pretty sure AT&T, O2 and others are not going to like it so I’d be careful. We only have AT&T EDGE here so it was pretty slow but it worked with a Macbook over bluetooth!

So I went to our local AT&T store and they had the iPhone 3GS out on display already. I took the liberty to take some screenshots and email them to myself :) The device is definitely faster and the autofocus on the camera rocked. The video looked really nice as well. Can’t wait to get mine tomorrow!
