WeatherIcon Update – Supports 3.0 Firmware *UPDATE WARNING

Available In: Cydia       Price: Free

WeatherIcon The WeatherIcon mod (a mod that allows the current temperature and weather conditions to be displayed on your weather icon) has been updated to version 2.1.2 which allows it to work on the 3.0 firmware. The status bar part of the mod still is not working on 3.0 but, at least the icon part of the mod is!

When I first installed WeatherIcon, on my iPhone running 3.0, it went into safe mode. I restarted the SpringBoard again, as prompted by the safe mode pop-up, and it worked fine. The same thing happened when I updated the mod on an iPhone running 2.2 firmware as well (safe mode, restarted, worked fine).

Sleep to Lock – Go to Lock Screen via the Sleep Button

Available In: Cydia       Price: Free

Sleep to Lock Sleep to Lock is an application that changes your sleep button (that is the Power button on the top of your device) so that when it is tapped, instead of putting your iPhone or iPod Touch into Sleep mode, it brings it to the Lock Screen. This is a code application so, when you install it, there will not be an icon on your SpringBoard…it just automatically makes the change once installed. To remove the mod, you will need to uninstall it via Cydia. [Read more…]

Spotlight Search I know there are mixed feelings about the new search feature of the 3.0 firmware, Spotlight. Some people love it, some people hate it! I have even had people ask me how to get rid of it (you can’t – at least not yet). Either way, many people are a little confused on what exactly Spotlight searches. Below is a list of exactly what is searched by Spotlight. [Read more…]

iPhone 3GS Disassemble and Repair Video

##ICON_NAME## Directfix.com recently posted a video on how to disassemble and repair an iPhone 3GS. If you are the fix-it type and you break your touch screen or you want to replace your battery or LCD…here are step-by-step instructions on how to do that! I honestly would never try this (Doug might) but, it is interesting to watch.

I also found that if you are willing to give it a shot, you can purchase the touch screen (IP-2320) and the LCD (IP-2321) for $69.99 each on their website. Below is the video demo.

So much for the thought that the new features were not cool enough for people to upgrade! It would be interesting to know how many of the 1 million are new iPhone customers and how many are upgrades.

Apple also said that in the first five days of the 3.0 firmware release, over 6 million people have download it! I think out of all the firmware updates, more people have upgraded to 3.0 than any other firmware. Let us know in the comments if you didn’t upgrade to the 3.0 firmware and why you didn’t!

“Customers are voting and the iPhone is winning,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO.
